I'm 100% serious. I really hated the guy. Most probably because I hate Milan and he was their icon, but I hated his guts and I always wished him the worst. Him and Shevchenko.
Plus he was overrated to the heavens, despite indeed being an excellent defender. Not even close to the defender he was presented to be.
He was overrated because of his "houlier than thou"-image. He was a good and classy guy IMO.

You must really hate him. 99.99% of coaches, players and football fans would disagree with you.

Maldini was just out of this world. Unlucky not to win something with his NT though.

Only here in this forum I'd make it to 20% of people who'd agree with me :D
Maldini was overrated. I'd take Nesta and Baresi any day over Maldini. Both were better defenders. They just weren't Cesare's sons and they didn't have the same media love.

I'll kill Di Natale if he chokes on Saturday.

These are the players Milan can't count on against Udinese:
Defense: Nesta, Yepes
Midfield: Boateng, Van Bommel, Aquilani, Flamini, Gattuso, Merkel
Attack: Cassano, Pato, Ibrahimovic

Most people rate CB's more then LB's or RB's.

And lets assume both Nesta and Baresi were better, what does that make Maldini? An average defender? It's like you're saying Pele and Maradona were better than Ronaldo (Brazilian) what does that make Ronaldo?

You using Baresi and Nesta as an example makes me convinced that you rate Maldini as one of the best ;)

Well yeah, that's why I said he was an excellent defender. He was one of the best but overrated by being considered the best of the best. He couldn't have played for a team that won all those CLs if he wasn't top class defender.
I'd put him on the same level with Vidic or Ferdinand. Noone will think of those two as the very best, though.

Maldini is a classy guy Alen, come on now :D
As a person you mean? I wouldn't know that.
As a player, I'm sorry but strictly judging by your age I don't think we could discuss this in details. In his best years you were a 5-8 year old boy and by the time you followed football with a better understanding for the game, Maldini was a shadow of himself and he was on a big decline.

Alen laying the smack, so Alen, baresi> maldini?
Nesta>Maldini for me.
Baresi is a guy my father really liked and I was like 10-14 when I watched him so when I say that I pick Baresi over Maldini, it might have to do more with how much my old man respected Franco :D
I do remember an imposing figure and undisputed leader/organizer in Milan's defense. I never saw that in Maldini.
