I don't Inter are going to get affected by this in Italy. As they are still the strongest team in Italy and should be able to win it without too much trouble. However, in Europe I think they will struggle. The reason why Inter won the C.L this year was mainly due to Mourinho's brilliance in reading and preparing the game. I don't think Benitez can emulate what Mourinho did or even come close for that matter.

At Liverpool he had to sell to buy under Hicks and Gillette. That won't be the case with Inter. He also won't have to acquire 3 free transfers every season in hopes that one pans out and the rest can be sold for profit.

Oh, definitely. I'm not saying Benitez isn't good at reading games, I just don't think he's anywhere close to Mourinho's level. It's true He got Liverpool to two C.l finals but here's what he failed to do. In both years where Liverpool went to the final, no one was convinced that Liverpool was the best team in Europe. In other words, he wasn't convincing. Granted, Liverpool did not by any means have the most impressive squad in Europe, but I would say that they were better than Mouri's Porto, don't you think.

Now even though Benitez has somewhat proven himself to be a good tactician; he hasn't come close to proving he's the best. Liverpool made it to the finals was thanks to their players playing above their respective levels. For me, a coach is a great tactician and a great reader of the game when he has the ability to absolutely shut down the opposing team. Benitez would make it to the final after conceding around 4 goals in total on aggregate. And then he would concede another two or three in the final.

For me, you have to be great defensively to be called a great tactician. That's what Benitez' liverpool lacked the last few years.

I think there was no option but to say to go for it and hope it was enough, there was no other tactic at 0-3 down, it wasn't a masterstroke. Hamann was just a bit of insurance for the counter attacks, just about worked. That's where managers get credit after all, when it comes off.

He took Kaka out of the match and shut down Milan's attack. This allowed Liverpool to hold possession for most of the second half. If you don't have the ball, you don't score. Fairly good move in my book.

Meh. Many coaches would add a striker and keep 4 men at the back. Rafa played it right, there have been times when he hasn't. For the most part he's gotten positive results. It's a shame so many on this forum downplay his accomplishment simply out of spite.

Oh for the love of God. Are you people seriously giving credit to Rafa after the win against Milan? They scored 3 goals in 6 minutes, it was a freak disaster that just happened to strike at the right time for Liverpool. Milan just completyely lost concentration and for 6 minutes everything went against them.

If there is ever a time in the history of football where credit should not go to the coach; it's in times like these.

I can not imagine Benitez taking over a club and having a modest transfer campaign. That's probably the reason he left Liverpool.

I can see how Inter squad already fit with 4-2-3-1 Benitez usually play in Liverpool. They still also have several fringe players that not used much in Mourinho days that can be fit into his plan. a Winger like Mancini and Quaresma can revive as Benitez play with 2 wingers in Pool.. or he can still opt to play Eto'o and Pandev on the wing like Mourinho did. for Gerrard position in AM C they already have Sneijder.. The only missing part is the good ball passer and deep playmaker like Xabi, but he already have several CM that can play in there alongside Cambiasso, there Motta, Muntari, Mariga

On paper, this team is better than what he have in Liverpool
