Hodgson is a retard then.

If you love loans, I could see loaning him to another English side so that he gains more "experience" in English football. But loaning him back to Italy is just retarded. Not thought-out at all.

But honestly, what is the point? If he performs we will lose him at the end of the year, if he doesn't perform then it is a waste of a move.

Be thoughtful about this. Either way, in the long run, he will have to be replaced. Instead of farting around with this, find guys that we can mold into the role as a long-term investment.

We need two new players (CM, CB) and should get a third (LB) in the next two weeks.

The club clearly doesn't have the necessary funds to buy top quality players right now so why not get Aquilani on loan unless you want to end up taking full ownership of more mediocre players who we have to give high wages?

Yeah, it might pay off in the short run, but not in the long.

Should have just kept Ekdal and given him a chance. I saw good stuff with him last season.

How often did you really watch Siena play last season? He has been impressive whenever I see him play but I think his ability to play an entire season for a club like Juventus is over-estimated here.

Anyway if he turns out to be Serie A ready this season why can't we just bring him back after Aquilani leaves with a full season of experience.

I saw him in the matches against the bigger sides. He showed some promise when he had the ball.

The difference between you and I in this is that I have a longer term perspective, you think short term.

How is giving him a season to mature away from Juventus thinking short term for the team or for Ekdal? If he stays he will barely play and will probably get sold or loaned anyway next season.

He can still come back next season if he plays well enough to deserve it.

Honestly, I would also prefer to keep Ekdal here as the 4th Choice CM. In this case he can be more adapted to Juve's tactics.

But I think what Badfish said is not a bad plan thou', provided that we have a buy out option for Aquilani. If Aquilani and Ekdal both performs well, we could keep both of them and sell one of Momo/Melo next season to build a more competitive CM lineup.

I'm talking about Aquilani. It's a short term fix, nothing else.

There isn't a point in investing in youngsters if all we do is place them in the hands of other people. Even if Ekdal comes back next season he won't be familiar with the team or the tactics, so the overall investment in the player is hampered. It's basically akin to buying stock in some company, then handing the management of the account to somebody else who has an incentive to act against you.

I simply do not see a point in bringing in Aquilani if we cannot lock in the benefits long term.

Yeah, but as you know, the buyout clause would be close to what Pool originally paid for him, which is obviously inflated.

Ekdal is already gone though. And its been a very slow market so far, loaning Aquilani isn't perfect but what available CM is a better option?
That's true, it's too late to reconcile our mistakes.

Depending on the terms of the loan, Aquilani would be a good move in the short run.

It's just that I can't get excited about it, knowing that whatever he does, the outcome for us will be losing the player. He might not even play a huge role anyway because he's always injured.

So basically, what we have is no possible future revenue on the player besides shirt sales, no possible return on the asset, and every chance that we waste a year using a player that needs to be replaced. Essentially, it's like signing a 36 year old Nedved.

The transfer policies the club have taken are simply against my ideals and make little sense from an investment point of view.

well, actually I would be satisfied with loaning anyone of Gago, L.Diarra, Aquilani...

if there is option to buy at good price, we play them ahead of Melo/Momo, if no option/the buyout price is high, then just use them as the backup and let them rot then we can still negotiate with the seller to lower the price next season

or use our own youngsters? haven't we signed some italian U19 this season?
