Moggi criticises Viola market
Monday 1 December, 2008
Disgraced former Juventus director Luciano Moggi has slammed Fiorentina's summer transfer campaign.
The Viola have been eliminated from the Champions League and are in sixth place after yesterday's defeat against Roma.
The Tuscans' summer additions have enjoyed mixed success with Alberto Gilardino finding the net regularly, while £10m man Juan Manuel Vargas is suffering badly.
“Fiorentina needed better players to compete in the Champions League and such a tough Serie A,” Moggi said on Radio Blu.
“Their squad is based around three champions - Adrian Mutu, Sebastien Frey and Gilardino, but they needed more against clubs like Lyon and Bayern Munich.
“As for Vargas, I would never have spent £10m on him. If it were up to me, I would have left him in Catania.”
