It didn't help. But the massive influx of foreign ownership changed the EPL big time: Russian oil billions, UAE oil billions, American owners, etc.

Contrast with Serie A, where Parmalat turned out to be a Ponzi scheme and Parma eventually fell back into Serie B and we got their coach. :shifty:

Udinese lose Handanovic

Udinese have been dealt a serious blow with the news that goalkeeper Samir Handanovic will be out for a month.

The Slovenian custodian has been one of the Friulani's star performers this season.

But it seems that Pasquale Marino will have to make do without his No 1 for a significant period.

According to the Corriere dello Sport, Handanovic tore some cartilage in his left knee during the game against Genoa.

The 'keeper has flown to Barcelona for surgery and will need to rest for at least a month.

Udinese are hoping to welcome Handanovic back for the UEFA Cup quarter-final first leg against Werder Bremen.

Handanovic's fellow Slovenian Jan Koprivec is set to take the gloves in the meantime, starting with the visit of Inter on April 5.
