Moratti In Ironic Remark Over Juve Open Letter

Inter President Massimo Moratti has sarcastically applauded Juventus' decision to write an open letter to the Italian Football Federation.

Juventus wrote the letter in the aftermath of last weekend's hugely controversial 2-1 defeat at Reggina, a game in which they had two clear penalties not given.

The Bianconeri claimed that they were being punished by referees as a follow-on from Calciopoli, and these comments have been criticised by a number of people in the Calcio community.

Moratti has up until now remained quiet on the matter, but last night before Inter's match with Roma, he was asked by Sky Italia if the open letter will put unbearable pressure on officials and have a negative effect on their performances.

"No, I do not know," said Moratti.

"Now the referees are used to everything, and they will overcome this as well.

"It is a new thing [what Juve have done]. Something like this had never come to mind in the past. I must compliment Juventus."

Inter maintained their nine point lead at the top of Serie A, as Javier Zanetti scored in the 88th minute to earn his side a 1-1 draw against Roma.

Zambro: Juve betrayed me Thursday 28 February, 2008

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Azzurri defender Gianluca Zambrotta has launched a stinging attack on former club Juventus.

The Barcelona stopper left Juventus after the Calciopoli crisis broke in the summer of 2006 and was criticised by some Bianconeri fans for deserting a club in crisis.

“I was called a traitor, but I was the one who was betrayed,” Zambrotta told GQ magazine.

“All of us who gave our all in training and games just to have two Scudetti taken away were let down.

“Besides, with the money they got from selling us they covered a lot of their debts – we gave the club a big hand.”

Players in the modern game are constantly under attack for their vast wage packets, but Zambrotta believes he deserves his salary.

“Of course things are better for us than they were a few years ago, but that’s the evolution of the football economy,” he said.

“I would like to see what professional would turn down a top job and double their wages.

“People think that we just kick a ball around and take the money, but I have earned everything I have.

“When I was at school I had to get up at 6.30am and between classes and training I wouldn’t get home before 7pm when I had to do homework. On many occasions my mother would find me asleep amongst my books.

“Competition is fierce and of 200 that were in my youth structure only three made it this far – Francesco Coco, Diego De Ascentis and myself.”

While Zambro has admitted that he would like to play in Italy again at some stage, he concluded with an indictment of the situation in his homeland.

“I get nostalgic about Italy every time I return and have to leave again,” he admitted.

“ I think that it is the best country in the world, but it’s not easy to be Italian abroad these days because Italy is indefensible and I won’t even try.

“My wife is from Naples - how is she supposed to hide the shame in what is happening there? People see the mess that is made in Italy as representative of us.”

It was really frustrating watching all these mins and witnessing such a red-card. I felt like headbutting my tv.
Frankly, before the match i wanted a draw. After the match i was glad it ended a draw.
But somehow during the match i found myself cheering for Roma. I even jumped off my chair when Totti scored.
It must be the biterness from Calciopoli that still doesn't allow me to cheer for Inter or for a draw when Inter play.

I think the ref did try to be fair yesterday. At least he didn't want to give an impression that he's favouring Inter. That's why he didn't give the penalties over Crespo. But the moment a 50/50 call had to be called, he immediately gave it in Inter's favour.
That red card wasn't scandalous, but it was far from a red, especially since the ref knew how, when and why Mexes got his first yellow. If the roles were oposite and if it was an Inter player instead of Mexes, it would have never been a red card.

It's really getting frustrating. I was defending Inter in first half of the season. They were the best and it's as simple as that. They didn't need the refs to win.
But after Christmas it's another story. Inter plays really bad and they win the matches. And it's always the ref in the middle of everything. Just take a look at their matches after Christmas and some parts of the articles from channel4 :

1. Siena-Inter 2:3
At 0:0 Inter were struggling to find a way through, but the referee pointed to the spot when Paul Codrea clattered into Cruz and Siena were furious at the decision, insisting the Argentine had run into their teammate or at the very least that it was a free kick for obstruction

at 1:1 the Scudetto holders went into the break 2-1 up thanks to a chaotic move. Siena couldn't clear the ball effectively and eventually Ibra cut back for Esteban Cambiasso to come sliding in from six yards. There were protests about this goal too, as Cruz may have been interfering with play and the ball possibly went over the byeline.

2. Inter-Parma 3:2
at 1:2, There was controversy five minutes from time, as Jimenez's effort was charged down by Bucci and Couto performed a goalline clearance on Ibrahimovic. The referee awarded a penalty and sent off Couto for handball, but replays certainly seem to suggest he got the ball with his head

3. Udinese-Inter 0:0
Inter got a very well deserved red card. Fair ref and Inter can't win

4. Inter-Empoli 1:0
at 0:0 If Inter thought the controversy of their win over Parma was over, they were very wrong. On 34 minutes the referee pointed to the spot for a Vannucchi handling offence to block Stankovic's effort, but replays show it hit his face and not his hand. Zlatan Ibrahimovic smashed a powerful penalty into the bottom corner.

5. Catania-Inter 0:2
at 0:0 a cross was headed back across the face of goal by Javier Zanetti for Esteban Cambiasso to tap in from five yards, but he was clearly in an offside position.

6. Inter-Livorno 2:0
No controversy here. And imagine this, right after the match Mancini says to the journalists "What are you going to write now?"
:lol2: what a clown. By sarcastically implying that this match was won fair and square he practically admits that the previous matches were highly suspicious.

7. Sampdoria-Inter 1:1
Fair refereeing and Inter can't win

8. Inter-Roma 1:1
Mexes gets a very dubious red card at 0:1

Just when Inter started playing bad the calls started going in their favour. Coincidence ?

I felt the same way. I was hoping for a draw but at the same time I wanted Inter to loose their Undefeated tag.

I have no idea what are you talking about but i was talking about something that could potentially decide the match.
I wasn't talking about a 50/50 decission for some foul in the middle of the pitch, or for some ungiven corner kick, i'm talking about a red card here.

The match was practically over and Inter stood no chances to equalise. It was all Roma and only after the ref gave a very very dubious red card to Mexes, Inter started playing again.

Wanted to admit or not, the referee handed the win to Inter, again !

P.S: Roma have mostly themselves to blame, though. The ref did play his part, but the Romanisti had everything on their side and they still didn't win.

Serie A Team Of The Week: Round 25

Team of the week (4-3-3):

Matteo Sereni (Torino): Some brilliant saves helped Torino to win a precious point in the 'derby delle mole’. Best possible back-up for Buffon for the Azzurri.

Giorgio Chiellini (Juventus): Another solid display for the Bianconeri defender. Unfortunately for him, he received a yellow card which will stop him from playing against his former side Fiorentina.

Thomas Manfredini (Atalanta): Back to his natural role of a full-back and he did not disappoint, pushing forward successfully throughout the entire game.

Tomas Ujfalusi
(Fiorentina): Always a rock in defence, but also very much present offensively.

Javier Zanetti (Inter): A lot of sacrifice for the team, but most importantly scored the goal which virtually ended the Scudetto race.

Cristiano Doni (Atalanta): Two goals and an assist. It's been a long time since he last featured in this list, but in the early part of the season he was a regular. Donadoni must keep an eye on him.

Juan Vargas (Catania): An average first half display was followed by an excellent performance in the second half to help the Rossoblu clinch an important point.

Zdravko Kuzmanovic (Fiorentina): Best Viola player of the evening. Quantity and quality for his team.

Antonio Langella (Atalanta): Put Zenoni in difficulty with his pace and produced two assists for his team-mates. Simply devastating.

Rolando Bianchi (Lazio): A thorn in his former side's defence. He scored from the penalty spot, but was extremely good throughout the entire game.

Amauri (Palermo): Wonderful display with great touches and moves which created opportunities for his team-mates to score. Just brilliant.

Honourable Mention

Doni (Roma)
Cribari (Lazio)
Andrea Barzagli (Palermo)
Andrea Rossi (Siena)
Emil Hallfredsson (Reggina)
Marco Borriello (Genoa)
Francesco Totti (Roma)

Sao Paulo defender Alex Silva has signed a pre-contract for AC Milan. The 21 year old player, brother of Benfica's Luizao, is still recovering from a knee injury but he was included in the brazilian club's list for the Copa Libertadores and will be part of the brazilian national team at the next Olympic games. Silva, whose contract with Sao Paulo will expire at the end of June and that was also tracked by Villareal, would be the second new entry in the italian club's defense after Gianluca Zambrotta.

Tuttosport :D

I have no idea how good he is but if he's not a potential WC then i wish they sign him. It will mean that they can't buy anymore non-EU players outside Italy.

The perfect chance to say about the letter then.

He basically admits that the refs are with them when he "compliments" us.

I was having a conversation with a friend today. He's a Milan fan,and we were talking about how they need a new keeper. He was pretty sure that they'd have a go for Buffon(again) in the summer.

Who do you people think they'd target?TBH,i see Milan lining up Buffon once again. Its one of those recurring transfer things. But i expect Milan to end up with someone else..Frey perhaps.Or maybe even Amelia.
