Roma To Sell With Debts Of €370m
The Sensi family are being forced to sell Roma with the club crippled by debts of €370m, according to the Gazzetta dello Sport.
Roma President Franco Sensi took over the club in 1993 from Ciro Di Martino, but after 15 years at the club it seems that his time is coming to a tragic end.
There had been strong reports in the English and Italian press a few months ago that Roma were set to be taken over.
Liverpool co-owner Tom Hicks, who has an estimated wealth over $1 billion, was the main name linked with a bid.
However Sensi’s daughter Rosella, who is also the administrative delegate of the Giallorossi, blasted the rumours and declared that the club would always stay in the hands of the Sensi family.
“Roma is ours, nobody can touch it,” she said.
“The club will remain with the Sensi family. There will be trouble for anyone who tries to touch it. My father is still alive and continues to play an active role within the club.”
It hadn’t been known just how much financial trouble the Sensi family and Roma were in, but the Gazzetta today claims that they have debts of €370m.
Thus it seems that the Sensi’s will have no other option but to sell the club, with there being a serious possibility that the club could fall into foreign ownership.
The American sports marketing veteran Jeff Slack, who used to be in charge of all the business affairs of Inter Milan, is being tipped to present a bid that will be impossible to refuse within the next few months.
