He could've stayed on his feet IF he wanted to. Even the commentators said it was a soft penalty.
No... watch it again. It's very obvious he lost his balance, and his body language didn't even ask for a penalty. He knew he was owned by the defender in a fair way.

The commentators said it was a soft penalty? Noone is denying it was a soft penalty. In fact, it was a non existant penalty. The argument is wheather he dived or not, and he clearly didn't.

Nicola Pozzi had an unforgettable afternoon with four goals as Alberto Malesani's side earned a stunning win in this relegation six-pointer.

Just 15 weeks into the season and this was already a do-or-die showdown against the drop. With 10 points each they were propping up the table and hoped to celebrate their first win under a new Coach. Empoli were boosted by their midweek 2-1 Coppa Italia victory against the mighty Juventus and could rely on the fact Cagliari had lost all three of their previous trips to the Castellani in the top flight. Sebastian Giovinco needed a late fitness test, while the Sardinians were without Davide Biondini and Marco Fortin.

Empoli got off to a stunning start, as after just 90 seconds they had taken the lead. An Agostini fresh air clearance failed to deal with Giovinco's cross and Under-21 international teammate Nicola Pozzi pounced on the loose ball to slide the right-foot finish in off the inside of the post.

The Cagliari defence was drowning in heavy rain in Empoli and this time Joe Bizera's mistake allowed Pozzi to flick on an Antonio Busce' assist and fire low into the far corner.

There was only one team in it and Pozzi missed a hat-trick when he deflected another Giovinco cross on to the base of the upright.

Straight after the restart Pozzi completed his treble with another assist from Giovinco. The Juventus youth product lifted his head and chipped the ball over the defence for Pozzi to chest forward and fire past the goalkeeper.

Giovinco was not 100 per cent fit, so he was replaced on the hour mark and received a standing ovation from the Stadio Castellani.

Pozzi was in no hurry to leave the field, as he scored his fourth goal of the game with a precise header from Claudio Marchisio's cross.

Empoli played midweek and took their foot off the gas, so Cagliari grabbed a consolation goal. Alessandro Matri cut back and his cross took a few deflections before Daniele Conti swept in the low drive from 10 yards.
Our boy's getting better and better. He looks more confident :)
Giovinco 2 assists and Marchisio 1 assist

-Two inexistent pens for Inter in a row. What a joke! Every weaker teams know that the possibility for them to score against Inter is very small, so that their first priority is try to keep a clean sheet. And when Inter struggle to score, the referees are there to help them a hand. This make their games much more easier and decrease their opponent's spirit a lot

Serie A Roundup, Dec. 9

ROME (AP) - Inter Milan routed Torino 4-0 Sunday and extended its lead at the top of the Serie A to five points.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic converted a penalty in the 38th minute at the San Siro and Julio Ricardo Cruz, Luis Antonio Jimenez and Ivan Cordoba added second-half goals.

Second-place AS Roma was held to a 1-1 draw at Livorno, where Daniele De Rossi scored for Roma in the fifth minute before Diego Tristan equalized a minute later.

"Inter is frustrating, they always win," said De Rossi, who also complained about a goal of his that was annulled in the second half.

Third-place Juventus and fourth-place Udinese earned late wins.
Pavel Nedved scored his first goal of the season in the 86th minute of Juve's 1-0 victory over Atalanta,
and Fabio Quagliarella scored twice in the final 20 minutes to lead Udinese to a 3-2 come-from-behind win over his former club, Sampdoria.

Undefeated Inter leads with 37 points, followed by Roma with 32, Juventus with 29 and Udinese with 28.

"Five points on Roma? It's not decisive," Inter coach Roberto Mancini said. "Every game in the league is dangerous. There are risks every Sunday."

Empoli and Siena both won to break out of a tie for last place.

Nicola Pozzi scored all four of Empoli's goals in a 4-1 win over Cagliari and Liechtenstein forward Mario Frick got two goals in Siena's 3-1 victory at Genoa.

Cagliari and Reggina, which didn't play, remain last with 10 points each.

On Saturday, Palermo beat Fiorentina 2-0 and Lazio shut out Catania by the same score.

Napoli hosted Parma later.

Torino controlled the opening half hour in Milan, and Inter went ahead when Ibrahimovic was tripped by Gianluca Comotto, earning a penalty.

Ibrahimovic couldn't reach a cross by Christian Chivu but Cruz was waiting to head in Inter's second goal in the 50th. Two minutes later, Jimenez struck with a powerful, rising shot from beyond the area to add to his recent goals against Fenerbahce and Fiorentina. Cordoba added a header in the 76th.

Torino forward Alvaro Recoba, on loan from Inter, came on in the 65th and didn't make much of an impact.

De Rossi put Roma ahead with a header after Marco Amelia risked too much by coming out of his goal. Diego Tristan replied by angling in a shot off the post, the first Serie A goal for the former Deportivo La Coruna striker.

Roma defender Juan headed a corner off the crossbar in the 61st.

Captain Francesco Totti, still regaining his fitness from a 40-day injury layoff, came off for Roma after 69 minutes.

"For Totti to express himself like he's capable of, he needs the movement of the team," Roma coach Luciano Spalletti said. "But we didn't (move) much and consequently he had more trouble."

In Turin, Nedved intercepted a ball and faked a pass to David Trezeguet before beating Atalanta goalkeeper Ferdinando Coppola with a long shot.

"We played a good game against an Atalanta team that allows the fewest shots on goal in Serie A," Juventus coach Claudio Ranieri said.

Serie A: Post-Match Comments
Sunday 9 December, 2007

Empoli 4-1 Cagliari
Alberto Malesani: “The team that wanted it the most won today. The tactical system helps, but it is the players who go out on to the pitch and they deserve the credit. Sebastian Giovinco is already mature for this level and, like Claudio Marchisio, come from the great Juventus stable. They are in fantastic form and I’ll let them play.”
Nedo Sonetti: “We went on to the field with the desire to play well, but after 50 seconds we conceded a goal and then seven minutes later another one. We couldn’t get over that early setback. These things can happen.”

Genoa 1-3 Siena
Gian Piero Gasperini: “We have never had such a terrible performance. We found ourselves in horrible problems because we were 2-0 down after 20 minutes with goals we gave away so cheaply. We lost our dignity in this game. We will see what can be done during the week.”
Mario Beretta: “We had a great game and were both smart and lucky to score twice early on. The lads did brilliantly, kept the pressure up and didn’t leave any space. I think the credit goes to them, as they have been working with me for a while now and deserved this victory.”

Udinese 3-2 Sampdoria
Pasquale Marino: “It was a very entertaining match in which both teams did their best to get the upper hand. What I really liked about my team was their refusal to give up. We only struggled at the start of the second half, then got right back on track. I hope Fabio Quagliarella can keep playing like this.”
Walter Mazzarri: “We had the impression from the touchline that Udinese’s third goal was clearly offside before the shot. I think throughout the game the referee was repeatedly inverting every decision against us. We collapsed at the end because we conceded two absurd goals. Not only did we not draw a match we should have won, we even managed to lose.”

Some great news today and one bad.

Good news: we cemented our top 4 spot, Giovinco and Marchisio keep impressing and Roma lost some points.

Bad news: Inter were not dominating until the penalty which I am still not sure if it existed. Torino even had some good chances to take the lead and that would be a great upset for them and good news for us. However, once they scored the 1st goal, they unleashed heavy artillery on poor Torino and demolished them. Bad luck for them, because according to their performance they didn´t deserve to lose 4 - 0.

Fucking Inter merda. They are unstoppable and now slowly running away. :faq2:

Zalayeta zinger!

Napoli 1 - 0 Parma Half-Time
Zalayeta 18 (N)

A magnificent Marcelo Zalayeta goal has given Napoli the half-time lead against Parma.

Edy Reja's men were desperate to halt their slide after a humiliating 5-1 defeat at Atalanta. They had just one win since beating Juventus in October and Maurizio Domizzi sat out a ban, but Marek Hamsik was dropped. Parma have improved of late with a 4-4-2 system, but had Luca Cigarini and Paolo Castellini sidelined.

Napoli last won this fixture in January 1997, followed by a 4-0 drubbing and a 2-2 draw in their last meeting in December 2000. McDonald Mariga's free header on a set-piece was wide of the near post after just three minutes, but at the other end Ezequiel Lavezzi slalomed between four defenders to cut in for Marcelo Zalayeta, who horribly scuffed the shot.

Another Lavezzi solo effort was charged down, but he was booked for kicking the corner flag over in frustration and will be suspended for the clash with Siena.

Napoli opened the scoring with an absolutely brilliant goal. Lavezzi's backheel started the move and Mariano Bogliacino's chip was spectacularly volleyed in by fellow Uruguayan Zalayeta's right foot.

Gennaro Iezzo put his foot down awkwardly and seemed to sprain his ankle on the turf, but was able to continue after treatment.

Reginaldo tried to lead Parma's timid fightback, but rarely managed to trouble the Napoli defence.

Reginaldo really should have equalised in first half stoppages. Andrea Pisanu got down to the byeline brilliantly and cut a low ball across the face of goal, but both Bernardo Corradi and Reginaldo failed to tap in from six yards.
