Mancini Shunned In 'Best Manager' Shortlist
Inter boss Roberto Mancini has surprisingly been snubbed as the nominees for Italy's manager and player of 2007 were announced. Kaká, Totti and Ibrahimovic are among those shortlisted for players' awards.
The published shortlist of the Italian Player Association's awards for manager and player of the year have surprised many after Internazionale boss Roberto Mancini was overlooked.
Ancelotti Listed
Mancini led the Nerazzuri to an easy Serie A win last year as they cruised ahead of their rivals, but the association has decided to instead nominate Carlo Ancelotti - who guided city rivals AC Milan to the Champions League - alongside Fiorentina's Cesare Prandelli and Roma's Luciano Spalletti.
Player Awards
In the player categories there were perhaps fewer shocks: among the Italians the trio of nominees are Giallorossi pair Francesco Totti and Daniele De Rossi, and Milan's Andrea Pirlo.
Pirlo's Rossoneri teammate Kaká was unsurprisingly shortlisted in the foreigners category, joined by Inter's Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Fiorentina's Adrian Mutu.
An overall winner will then be chosen between the best Italian and non-Italian candidates, while other gongs reward the best goalkeeper, referee, defender and young player. This year will also see a special award to highlight the achievements of one player throughout the decade between 1997 and 2007.
