Abete new FIGC chief Monday 2 April, 2007

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Giancarlo Abete is the new President of the Italian Football Federation, after being appointed in Rome on Monday.

The former Vice-President replaces temporary Commissioner Luca Pancalli, who had been elected in September to continue where his predecessor Guido Rossi had left off.

Italian football is therefore set to return to normality after the long interregnum following the Calciopoli scandal and its shocking effects.

The Lega Calcio had voted to propose Abete as their sole candidate two weeks ago, as the Federation needed a permanent chief in place if Italy hopes to host the Euro 2012 tournament.

Abete received 264 out of 271 votes from the assembly gathered at the Marriott Park Hotel in Rome and is expected to be assisted by current Lega Calcio chief Antonio Matarrese.

“We must look ahead without having any fear of the past,” declared Abete during his acceptance speech.

“Values are important, but we must not demonise football. Let’s remember that this sport is also an important asset for this country from a financial point of view.”
Any infos about this guy? Is he with us or against us? :pumpkin:

The last sentence suggests good things. He should know who is important for italian football from a financial point of view.

i want lazio to get 2nd and roma to get third with milan.

so this way Milan and Roma will have their seasons starting early, and that will harm them really badly. Lazio will get consumed with the CL and that will harm them as well. So that would all benefit us in the end :D

I hope Milan doesn't get a CL spot, so that they don't have an advantage over Juve in attracting new players to the squad this summer.

PS Torino sux... big time :eyebrows: :p
