I'm not just pulling your chain in fact, I'm interested in the topic. Democracy is always held up as the ultimate solution, so it makes you wonder.
IMO the right leader is more important than the form of government in place...in my country at least, we have always struggled with that aspect of politics...every person who's been entrusted with the top job, democratic or otherwise, has been a disappointment, which has left me disillusioned with the idea of a democracy...

a good example is Mahathir Mohammed, long-serving premier of Malaysia.

But it's not one person making all the decisions, not in a system where power is divided between institutions. So it's not about "the right leader", it's about the system. You can hope all you want for the perfect monarch who'll be the perfect leader, but chances are he won't ever show up.

he won't show up because too much power always corrupts.
You could say that about someone like Obama who was elected "by the people". He went from being "one of us" to being drunk with power. (Not that I'm saying this is what happened, but just for the sake of argument.) But you can't say that about a monarch who inherited power. His interests never lied with the people in the first place, so you can't say he became corrupted.
