But you're technically in a position to decide who is going to control the market, the government or predator companies through various monopolies.

I know where I stand.

honestly the first time I was thinking about socialism was after some right wing american talkeing heads like o reilly made it a scapegoat for everything.
It wasnt a big thing before that since we live on a capitalist continent, we just are more left leaning in politics(which really isnt hard compared to the US who simply have no left) and have a social security net( to which every worker pays) a more accesable health care system(for everyone with a job) and you cant just fire us with no reason. all things that the right wingers of the US citizens hate. Thats why they call us socialists. because we are slightly different

thats really a choice between two evils of equal malice and selfishness
But you do realise that those are the two only choices you have, right? So, would you rather entertain the idea of representative democracy and have the people you elect excercise control on the market, furthermore people who you - in theory - are able to hold accountable for various happenings. Or would you rather have some douchebag who only has his own interests in mind to control it?

And please don't try to compare predator companies with governments, i'll be very tired if we move down that path.

Just because you put a bad adjective before companies doesn't mean they are a worse choice. I could put many many bad adjectives before a goverment controlled economy. Nobody's saying that some regulation is not necessary, ofcourse it is but it should be put at the bare minimum.

It's not a bad adjective, you dolt, it's the actual term for the way some companies operate.

Should be put to the bare minimum, I agree - though it should be strong enough to counter private monopolies, speculation and predator companies.

if all companies would get their way it would be a nightmare for workers. no more health insurance, pay would be a lot less and people would get fired left and right.
most companies care about their profit first and foremost and the worst can be downright cruel to their employees.
I worked in such a sweat shop once as a telephonist and every day was horrible. no way I d want to live, I d rather have good worker unions and some worker rights that dont depend on profit

thats not entirely true there are companies that treat workers excellently, google, apple, ben and jerrys, etc to name a few and not because of unions but because of a culture in the hierarchy

but these companies are the exception not the rule, there is no company out there watching out for their employees teh reason these treat their employees the best is because they want to attract the best, all a matter of bottom line, the fact is once a company goes public you are pretty much just a number.

Oh I know but in the end the same can be said for governments
