It's situations like Iraq that make me get up all Darwin up in this beyotch. Like why is humanity programmed to have zealots go off the deep end en masse and do everything in their power to not only screw over everyone around them, but to send their own people back to the Stone Ages.

What's the survival value? Is it just spurious? Or did natural selection leave this quasi-Neandertal act around in case the majority of humans go nuke itself back into the 5th century B.C. and some sect, by chance, should be around to survive enough to live in the aftermath.

When you look at the way extremists approach their religion, it's just a different way for the rich to get richer, so to speak. They get rid of competition, barbaric laws such as chopping off hands, heads and stoning due to stealing or girls flirting with others make it so everyone is scared of doing anything. The women become nothing but childbearing camouflaged fleshlights that also cook and clean and aren't allowed to drive. Pretty ingenious really.

That's good for the minority, true dat. But as a group?

Apologies if you're Pakistani here, but if you have a culture that advocates keeping women ignorant in society, the general rule is that other societies are going to treat you like you're their bitch economically, etc. I mean, you are cultural roadkill if half your nation's brain trust is programmed for stupidity in an ever-increasing global economy. Your nation will become a dumping ground for waste and cheap labor and you will be exploited like mad.

So where's the survival advantage in that?

Oh yeah, I doubt they're thinking that far ahead.

Perhaps. But there's something about human psychology and its wiring that allows this to happen. You'd think that natural selection would have wiped out all societies that could not compete nor advance when put into competition with neighbors who supported societies that promoted things like scientific advancement, egalitarianism, etc.

Ironically, Islam in its heyday was very much that. And the answer today -- for many Islamic societies hell bent on trying to recreate that long lost time of glory -- has been to adopt all the horrible habits that have instead been the very things that have held their societies back.

So there must be something in the human psyche that allows retrogressive societies to continue to exist for some sort of mutation survival reason. That's what I get out of that.

So when I see something like ISIS, it's like walking among dinosaurs -- of DNA that should have long been extinguished from the gene pool. (Yes, I am being a cultural snob and calling them medieval.)

Keeping women ignorant, is bad but sadly thats not the worst

check the number on female circumcisions that still happen. And its actually a gigantic euphemism for brutal pussy massacre.

I just cant understand who came up with it. "hey you know what would be great, if we cut out the inner and most of the outer labia and the clitoris, and we sow everything tight with some root".

True. I guess I don't know what's going through their minds.

A recent bout of 20th century humanitarianism from the societies capable of easily destroying them?

Men have been trying to control women's bodies since the beginning of time though.

You only have to look to Liberia and see what happens to a society where people choose superstition and ignorance over the alternatives. When societies have ebola-infected patients rushing out of hospitals claiming that it's a hoax, natural selection is swift, impartial, and severe.

Now there's a variety of factors (mostly involuntary) of why these societal approaches still exist, but the repercussions are immediate and unmistakable. Natural selection shows that if your society chooses right, you have a better chance of living to give birth to the next generation. If you choose wrong, you die and are eliminated from the gene pool.

In the case of an ISIS, the choices aren't as swift as ebola. But the effects are nefarious and clearly there.

Actually, one should ask a modern feminist (the ones about equality and not equal rights), how that is possible if men and women are each others equals.
Women's Studies was not an available degree major in Bronze Age Mesopotamia. :D

And yet Fidel Castro had the wherewithal to expel the Cubans with mental health problems with the 1980 Mariel boatlift... here ISIS is giving them guns and authority.

Well, if ISIS keeps provoking the US with killing the wrong people (for US, killing a muslim isnt wrong), then this is an excellent moment for all scumbag extremists to join forces with ISIS and get eradicated all at once.

Would be good for the image of Islam in the comming years, if there isnt an extremist group every month that declares on television they'll kill the nonbelievers or drown them in blood of their families.

Must be irritating if <1% keep deforming the image of the other >99%
