I'm sure we've had this topic before, but it must have been a long time ago.

I'll give you an example:
(also has subtitles which makes it infinitely more accessible :D)

So anyone like French hip hop? Personally I have a feeling it's much better than Yank. For one thing it seems they haven't lost track of the basic concept of what music really is about: the music. Not the lyrics. And not the boring videos with the cars and the women.

Your recommendations are welcome.

instrumentals are all fine and good, but hip hop and rap are more about the lyrics in my opinion, they derive from poetry FFS.

So why not just get up and there and recite a poem? Why do you need instruments? Oh I have an idea, because it's music, not poetry.

I have nothing against good lyrics, but the song (see, there we have the word again) never works unless the music is good.

And I wonder if going from "hip hop" to "rap" hasn't hurt the discipline a lot. Hip hop is much more than rap and it's by no means the rapper that deserves most of the credit, it's a concerted effort. But then if you just say "rap" well what more can you reasonably expect than rap with crappy music, I suppose that makes sense in some way.
