Yes, FIFA has done a really good job adapting their refereeing standards in these cases. There's really just no need for these challenges on 50/50 balls. These are not crucial moments in the game where some leeway should be allowed, like maybe shirt pulling on corners or something.
It's just a loose ball in midfield that happens 100 times a game and yet you could break your leg going for it? It seems the risk/reward of those challenges is not balanced.
