why? ireland has a shot at qualifying to WC?
I don't think we have a chance of making it to Brazil.

Trap has stubbornly stuck to the same players and out-dated tactics that failed miserably at the Euros. His team selection is baffling. The few Irish players that are making a positive influence in the EPL can't make the team. The likes of Shane Long, Seamus Colemen, Darron Gibson, Ciaran Clark, Wes Hoolahan, Anthony Pilkington, Marc Wilson are first team regulars in the EPL but haven't been given a chance by Trap. Instead of them he continues to choose Darren O'Dea who plays in the MLS, Robbie Keane who can only score penalties now, Paul Green (Trap brought him to the Euros ahead of Gibson even though Green didn't have a club), Stephen Ward who was the worst player in the entire tournament this summer and has no idea how to be a defender, Andy Keogh who doesn't seem to have any discernible footballing ability other than running around quite a lot and the comedically bad Paul McShane.

The "golden" generation, i.e. the ones that were good in 2002, are retiring now and no attempt is being made to bring new, younger players into the squad.

Pretty much every football fan in the country can see we're going no where under Trap, but the FAI can't afford to fire him and he knows that.

Because we're going backwards as a team. We need to get the younger players into team and build for 2016. It's a waste of everyone's time leaving Trap in charge of the current team that's going nowhere when he's showing absolutely no inclination to change anything. Plus the FAI can afford to pay their oaf of a CEO a €400k salary.

Okay, Ireland are playing a pointless friendly in London tomorrow against Oman. For the first time I can remember, Trap has named an "experimental" team. It seems like he's gone out of his way to show he's willing to try different players. He's called a Scottish U21 international that no one has ever heard of into the squad and named three RBs in the starting XI.

Edit: apparently the match is today.
