Thank you for your answer. While I did tag you in my original post, I wrote that post exclusively with Kid Cuti in mind - or The Great Maltese as I refer to him. Consider your tag a celebration of the fact that you were lucky enough to be born in the same country as The Great Maltese.

I find it pretty cool that I can understand a little bit of spoken Maltese. The Arabic content in it sounds like a Bastardized-Tunisian variant. Even Tunisian-proper itself is a weird dialect, although it's easy to understand for me as a Middle-Eastern Arab.

Where can I read more about Maltese language history? (other than Wiki?)

    the Maltese language is made up of Arabic, French, Italian and English.
