Azzurri lose injured Del Piero Tuesday 6 September, 2005

Alessandro Del Piero has withdrawn from the Italian squad for the World Cup qualifier in Belarus because of injury.
The Juventus ace was expected to return to the starting line-up on Wednesday but the Azzurri have been robbed of his services.
The No 10, who sat out the 1-1 draw against Scotland on Saturday, has picked up a slight thigh muscle problem.
Although medics initially stated that he could recover in time, Del Piero has not flown out to Minsk on Tuesday.
Del Piero picked up the problem in the closing stages of this morning’s training session when he was fielded alongside Francesco Totti and Luca Toni.
The 31-year-old, who is now a doubt for the Empoli trip on Sunday, pulled up before limping off the field of play in the knowledge that he had a problem.
Milan striker Alberto Gilardino, who was sensationally dropped at the weekend, may now be handed a starting jersey.
There was another injury scare earlier today when Alessandro Nesta received a nasty blow on the wrist.
However, the Milan stopper will start in a defence which should include Cristian Zaccardo, Fabio Cannavaro and Fabio Grosso – who replaces the suspended Gianluca Zambrotta.
Mauro Camoranesi will probably begin in midfield instead of the banned Daniele De Rossi.
Boss Marcello Lippi is set to stick with the trident attack with Toni probably replacing Christian Vieri.
