Obviously it's his age. I would say that I don't know why certain people are comparing Del Piero with players that have several years left at the top level, but I do know why.
Because Del Piero has scored probably the most important goal of the season, as well as a couple more against the top level teams of the league, he is not earning that much and he wants to stay. So, one more year, not several, wouldn't harm the club.

When Buffon gets down to the last year or so of his career we'll see the same situation, will he won't he? One more year. It's how it ends. Let go. Del Piero could play more than one year in MLS, so there is nothing final about him retiring at Juventus at the end of 2013.

He should be allowed to leave on his own terms.

that is the only thing that matters.
What do you know, maybe he is leaving on his terms, he doesn't get enough chances to play, he wants to play, hence the leaving. The sad part if true is that he is leaving.

Have you not read his interview with Vanity Fair?

He wants to retire at Juve, but they are forcing him out and deliberately sidelining him.

Speaking generously of offering a life contract to Buffon and then stating uncertainty about Del Piero's contract in the same interview is hard to digest.

Alex wants to retire at Juve. The club shows him the door. The rest are speculations.

Why doesn't the club offer him a new contract? Alex can decline if he wants to "play more". They know he won't reject renewal, that's why.

You're going to confuse these guys into a vicious circle of blaming Agnelli or Conte.
I don't care anymore, I'm just really sad that if rumors are true he will leave us, and I have never known a Juve without DP, so I don't put much thought in this and try to focus on the current season instead of ruining my season with pure speculations.

And if he leaves it will be a very sad day and I will cross that bridge when i come to it, not sooner.

When he says he wanted to retire at Juve and then 'things change' we are assuming that he means he is being forced out. What if it is because he decided before that he was going to try MLS at the end of the season?

Because he would have announced it at the beginning of the season.

You seem to be a smart guy, tell me why does the club not offer him a new contract? Wouldn't it make the things easier for everyone, fans and media? If Alex is determined to leave, he will decline it. Fans will know that he is leaving on his own terms and the club will have shown a classy gesture.

I don't know what is happening behind closed doors, I have no contacts in there. I think he would want to finish his career here, but as he said himself it's very hard for him to be in this situation where he doesn't get enough time, so maybe he really wants to move and play regulary in his last days?

If DP decided to retire now he would get the chance to do it in Juve, but he wants to play more, he probably wants to play 2-3 years if he avoids injuries, and that is not possible, so if not this season then next we would come to the same situation we are having now.

If he leaves it will surely be sad day, but a day after which I can see week in and week out regular highlights of his with plenty of goals and skill, because here, this would not be possible.

It's pure speculation, and as it is right now not true too.
