Torricelli questions Del Piero timing

Moreno Torricelli was left surprised by the timing of today’s announcement that Alex Del Piero will leave Juventus in 2012.

Although it was widely anticipated that the almost 37-year-old would not play for the club beyond 2011-12, Andrea Agnelli’s words have come as a shock.

“I was left open-mouthed when I heard the news,” Torricelli, who played alongside Del Piero at Juventus for six years in the 1990s, told TMW. “I didn’t expect it in a moment like this.

“However, if the President said what he did then it would certainly have been in agreement with Alessandro.

“Personally speaking, though, I think they could have waited…”

With the decision to part playing ways seemingly made, now it remains to be seen whether Del Piero will play on, possibly in America, or take a director role at Juventus.

“It depends on just him,” Torricelli added. “If he still feels like a player then he will continue, otherwise he’ll remain a Juventus flag-bearer.

“He is a Bianconero, he’s surpassed all of the club records. I think and I hope he can stay in Turin.”

well the day we all dreaded has arrived, i can't say that i'm disappointed nor pleased, but somewhat unsurprised. At the end of the day we should be looking at the positives rather than cry about the negatives. Most here witnessed a living legend in our life time, but unfortunately to say like other legends at the club we have witnessed over the years, they come and they leave on a high, with every legend lost new legends will be made.

Tbh if it wasn't for the new stadium i think ale would have left last summer instead, his day of retirement/leaving Juve has been on the cards for some time and unfortunately it is something we just have to accept and instead reflect upon his achievements and the moments of happiness he brought upon us all, not only to Juventus, but to the footballing world as a whole, the way he was given a standing ovasion at old trafford and against real madrid.

Grazie Ale and lets finish this season on a high.

The fact that each time I'll see him play or step into the field I'll start my countdown, everyone actually.. Big part of my football passion will definitely die.
