This for example is a post one can not dislike but appreciate it even though it's not what I want but the man is stating his mind and things he sees without being harsh and disrespecting the player.

These kind of criticism are always appreciated and always a classy posts to read. But when others come in here just to insult the man and call him names then this is not "You have to accept my criticism" but more of a provocation.

Again, your stance, is completely lacking any semblance of objectivity. I did not insult del piero. Unless that is, you see, me explaining that most decent teams have a captain who starts most games when fit, and that del piero doesnt deserve to start, as provoication...and if you do, then as I have stated already, you are blinkered.

Its touching, that you adore him so much. But when he is more important than choosing the best starting XI we can choose...when, you take suggestions of his most obvious replacements, as captain, as provocation, then you are undoubtedly blinkered, and count yourself directly out of any meaningful discussion on the matter.

Every player gets old. Every player loses his ability. It makes no difference at all if DP says he is happy to start from the bench. Because...I am not attacking HIM. I am saying, as many others are saying, that he should be benched. And if he starts against Lech, and does amazingly, i am sure, azzurri, you will be the first to sing his praises...whilst avoiding the very obvious fact, that whatever he does, will be against an extremely weak opponent.

I love the man. But, like with Camo, like with Nedved, when a player is finished, he is finished...and try to show me, another top level team, which regularly starts a 35 year old, with zero pace, zero strength, in attack, and also deploys him as their captain?

You completely changed the subject. We are talking about his Captaincy and you're talking about something else now.

Look, criticize the man day and night, I got nothing with it and who am I to stop you? But at least be little bit fair to the man that's all. He wasn't in his day on Sunday he played poorly and now you want Del Neri to take off Dp's captain armband?

Is this the way Del Piero should be treated? What are we? Milan? Inter? One of the things Juve is known for is that we pay tribute and respect our legends the living ones and the past ones. Lets not break this tradition just because he played poorly against Sampdoria on the 12th of Sep 2010.

Saying that Ale is finished and can't offer anymore to the team is one thing with which one might disagree but saying that he shouldn't be the captain of the team is another thing. That's just so ridiculous that people ignore whatever else you say about Del Piero even though you might be having a point.

Taking away his armband? As if that would even change something. For as long as he'll continue playing (either as a starter or a sub) he'll be the captain, he'll be mister Juventus. Taking away that little piece of extra fabric on his arm won't change that.

that's crazy..well glad he was a juventino :D ...so we have him, platini, zidane, nedved and cannavaro right?
Cannavaro was technically a Real Madrid player when he won ballon d'or and that's how France football counts that, unfortunately :(

Omar Sivori in 1961, Paolo Rossi in 1982, Michel Platini in 1983, 1984 and 1985, Roberto Baggio in 1993, Zinedine Zidane in 1998 and Pavel Nedved in 2003 are those who were Juve players at the time when they won this award.

Juve, together with Milan, are the only teams who "won" it 8 times. We should be technically 1st because Cannavaro was a Juve player for the bigger part of the calendar year when he won the award :D

Lo-Pan, you are going slightly overboard with this. The truth is that DP should be stripped off the armband only when he will retire. When it comes to benching him, and choosing another striker instead of him, i must say i slightly agree with that. IMO, Juve should start "replacing" DP, step by step. Bench him one game and sub him in the 70th, 75th minute or vice verca, play him right from the start and then sub him. He can still get consistency, and if he is still as good as we think and hope he is, then it wouldnt be a problem for him to score 9-10 goals this season. Just remember what Trezeguet did last season.

I really don't know if any player of Del Piero's status has ever been stripped of captaincy after oh so many years of leading the team on the pitch.

I seriously doubt that we have fans like that. Yes, we do have fans that dont like see DP still playing, but there is no way that we have fans that disrespect him and would boo him when he retires...
Booing him when he is playing his final game wouldn't be really unlikely for someone who calls him a fat bastard I guess :D

I dont insult him. I just look to the Now, and the Future. And wail all you wish, about my criticism of his starting place and captaincy, but at least respond to this, with other suggestions other than 'you cant speak of del piero like that, he has done so much for the club'. Indeed, i agree, he has done wonderful things for this club. He has my respect, but that doesn't at all, make me agree that he should be both starting and continuing as our captain. Very separate issues.

If he does well for us, wicked, i wish him to start, but presently, i would prefer us to be starting with someone more spritely, in attack, with a player who can at least run and stand shoulder to shoulder with opponents. Del Piero cannot do these things. That isn't opinion. Its fact.

So continue to blow you del piero trumpets. But I see the club as more important than him, not him AS the club. Others here see the opposite.

None of you Del Piero fanatics have answred my questions...of what other decent teams start with a 35 year old in attack??? and if he is benched, what other top teams start with a captain on the bench??? I am fine to agree with facts, but not fine to agree with the opinions of tunnel visioned del piero fanatics.

I want success for this club, nothing more, nothing less...not glory for del piero before that, or as the only way to that.

if he can do the business...wicked. but if he can't, as seems increasingly likely, then bench him. Yes, its too late now to move the captaincy. should have been done in the summer, but i suppose with diego's sale, and the next in line to the captaincy, Buffon, out for a few months, DP kept the armband. CHanging mid season is wrong. But next summer, its high time we found a new capitano...
