"I believe that everyone’s thoughts should not be on any particular objectives that is scudetto, Coppa Italia or Europa League. We must concentrate on getting back to being Juventus in all aspects and end the season proud of what we achieved. This should be the focal point of our season". These are the words of the captain: Alessandro Del Piero met the journalists in the press room in the fire department hall in Pinzolo stating the line to follow. Maximum commitment and no proclamations even though the want to win is great: "I still have a love and passion for this sport, I am well and I am an ambitious person – explained Alex. Without forgetting our objective which is that of getting back to being Juve, I would like to get back to winning something. This is something we began in the Serie B and which I want to complete".

Alex is charged and ready to play his cards: "As Del Neri explained very well, if a player deserves to play, whether his 18 years old or 36, he must play. I have always had a precise type of behaviour in the dressing rooms: maximum availability, maximum openness and a will to do well. The will to play is fundamental to do well. The problem arises when a player does not want to play, while he must do all he can to be committed and to avail himself".

With regards to his future, Alex underlined: "I am totally focused on this season. I have no particular concerns with regards to the contract and there is no deal with other teams. I cleared my mind to be able to focus only on this year which is very important for Juventus and for me and I want to interpret it in a more maniacal way then usual. In these last few years a lot has been said and written about me. Many times I surprised you. This year things must be different and I want to surprise myself above all".

The press office came up with a proposal: that of after retiring, taking up an important managerial role in Italian football to try and solve the current situation, and thus imitating another great number 10 in the history of Juventus, Michel Platini, the current UEFA president: " My future after football is still a big question mark. I still feel I am a footballer and I will surely still be so for a few more years. I know it will come at the end. I do not feel “immortal”, but joking apart, this question will be answered with the passage of time and the answer will depend on how I will be living these last few years. I wish Platini the best on an international level and on those concerned on a national level to help improve football. It is a delicate and difficult job that cannot be done by a single person but which has to be done together with the clubs, supporters and the government…".

Back to the field, in recent years much is being said about a rivalry with Diego: "There is nothing wrong with saying that the coach sees us covering the more or less the same role. During the season other solutions might arise but I see no rivalry".

With regards to Del Neri, the captain said: "He has an important past, did well before and I hope he can do the same here. He is concentrating to make sure that this is a brilliant season. The premises are excellent, then however sometimes it is the results which influence judgement. We are preparing in a different way compared to other years but it does not make sense to say if it’s better or worse. The important thing is that it is interpreted in the right manner, with the necessary commitment in order to improve. We are working well, that’s for sure".

Asked about Felipe Melo and how his return to Turin might be, he answered: "Felipe had a bit of a turbulent summer. I am happy he is being positive with regards to the nest year and this is what I want to stress: his will to make up".

Thoughts the shifted to Zaccheroni and his experience in black and white: "When I bid farewell to him and his staff I wished them the best of luck. He immersed himself heart and soul in the time of difficulty, giving all and I hope that soon he can soon coach another team and do well".

The subject shifted to the national team and the adventure in the World Cup: "I did not support against the national team, even because I felt part of the team seeing that there were so many players with whom I played and won, just like the staff and the whole environment. For me playing for the azzurri was always a marvellous thing. I always dedicated myself totally, in the sad times, in the great times and in the unique times such as the victory in 2006. Prandelli said he will be chosing the best and my objective is to do well. The rest will follow. According to Maradona the world championship missed me and Totti? It makes me happy to be spoken of in this manner by somebody like him, a person whose football cannot be discussed".

If he received with joy the words of Maradona, was there something in the last few years that annoyed him? "I do not want to say much about the negative aspects – answered the captain -. I know that critics are divided in my regards and I must be opne and accept this. I also I have a role of a greater responsibility compared to others, that I have an important history and a particular behaviour which I am proud of. The final performance will be determined by many factors which are all important: the field, the goals but also the daily behaviour. It is for this reason that certain discourse and thoughts, which are influenced by reasons outside football, about me are unacceptable. My mind however is not focused on this. I honestly don’t have the time to think of this".

Finally acomment about the draws of the Europa League which will see Juventus play either against Irish team Shamrock Rovers or Israeli side Bnei Yehuda: "Actually the match is closer then one might think and we start to concentrate on this match. I don’t know whether if it is better to go to the cool weather in Irealnd or the heat in Israel but what I know is that we must absolutely make it through to the next round".

According to the Italian press, Gigi Delneri tries some new-old ideas. after trying only two pairs of forwards- DP&Amauri and Diego&Trez, this week, Ale played alongside Trez while Diego played with Amauri. On Monday, Ale-Trez looked great, especially Ale, who scored wonderful goal (great shot from distance, according to the reports) and showed great form.

Yesterday, Ale-Trez worked in the gym and Delneri tried Diego-Amauri.

I guess from now on whoever is in form will play. All the combinations are possible.

Alessandro Del Piero believes Juventus need to be a team again if they are to start winning things once more in Turin.

Juventus had a disastrous season last year, finishing seventh in Serie A.

The Bianconeri are currently en route to Dublin where they will meet Shamrock Rovers in a Europa League qualifier tomorrow.

Speaking to Sky Sport 24, Del Piero said: “The objective is to find a team again after last year and finish the season in a positive manner, proud of what we have done, which in turn will make our fans and our club proud.”

Del Piero was then asked if he still considers Inter favourites to retain the Scudetto.

“For obvious reasons yes,” he said.

Juventus have made wholesale changes this summer, bringing in five new players, a new Coach and a new general manager, not to mention a new President as well.
