Our captain. :delpiero:

We kind of take this guy for granted, but if you look at how much love he gets everywhere he goes.. amazing. Great man.

Its going to be a bit strange having a Captain who is likely to always start on the bench when Diego is fit...Less of a problem when Santo Buffon is between the sticks, as he can command the troops. But without him, and with DP on the bench, who will be our leader On the field???

A lack of natural leaders has been a problem of ours for a while now...the problem made a million times worse when Nedved was executed and sent to his grave.

Of course nobody could replace "El Capitano", but Chiellini has shown adequate leadership skills when given the chance. He's maturing rapidly and will soon mold into a great captain. And we also have Marchisio waiting in the ranks.

CHiellini isnt mature enough yet. Too much playfulness in him still...Improving yes, but not ready. Marchisio needs to be more consistent, as a player, before been considered for the role. He seems passionate, but fairly timid on the field when it comes to driving the team onwards.

Buffon should be made captain next season. With either one of those two above as Vice, or someone else who stands out this season, as a leader.

Del Piero has never seemed to be a traditional captain. Its odd and rare to see flair merchants with the armband on, as they are generally prone to drifting in an out of games, weak, and far from fierce. All of which fits DP, not just now, but for a while. He gets respect, for how amazing he used to be, as a player, and for how truly wonderful an ambassador he has been and continues to be for our great club. But with his passing, on the horizon, truly, I hope we get new captain who is courageous, respected and will die for our cause week in, week out, no matter what the score is, or match. Whether an italian cup game against Ancona, or champions league semi final. A consistent Roar, for honour and victory.

One of the reasons that Inter have been succesful, is that they have several leaders in their first team. Mainly Cambiasso and Zanetti. Those two infect the others around them, moreso, I feel, than DP does to those around him at Juve. Part of that is down to form, obviously...as it cannot make the rest of the juve team driven to succeed, when they see their captain so easily shoved off the ball and looking a pale shadow of the player he once was.

No doubt, there will be some members who react to these words personally, and so be it...but i have insulted nobody. I am actually seriously interested in how the other Juve fans view DP as a captain now, and for this coming season...and also, who else could be considered in the future, for the role. Which, with Buffon fit, I am sure will be a vice captain role, as he is a leader, commands respect, and is far more vocal than DP.

last time I tried to broach the subject, I put it poorly, with too much criticism of DP. So I am trying again...as I have been speaking with some friends recently about What Makes a Decent Captain, as well as the best captains of all time.

My own favourites include Brian Robson, Roy Keane, Viera, Conte, Andy Hessenthaler, Baresi, Maldini, Vinnie Jones...also ViaLLi.

30.07.2010 THANKS DUBLIN

It went exactly like we wanted it to go. The win in the first round against the Shamrock Rovers makes it easier to advance to the next round, we just need to remain focused also in the second leg. Apart from the opponent technical preparation, that surely isn’t as good as ours - even if they are solid, compact and physically strong - to start well this part of the season is never easy, doesn’t matter what team do you play against and so we are really satisfied with our result.

It was nice to play on the stadium like the one in Dublin, very small, less than five thousands people crowded it completely... But I can ensure you that they made us feel their presence, oh yes, they did. During the whole match they were cheering their team, despite the result. Pure passion, really nice ambience, the experience of times gone by! I was happy to be there. And I’m grateful to the Irish fans for a standing ovation they reserved for me when I entered the fray, I also thanked them after the game through the local journalists that interviewed me...

They also asked me about Bono Vox, knowing well my passion for U2. Dublin is his home, and we won there. But I’m quite sure that Bono will win at our home, Olympic Stadium in just a couple of days. Not the match against Shamrock, though (we’ll be playing in Modena on the 5th of August) but his concert, that will take place in Turin at our stadium on the 6th of August. It will be a success! You just can’t miss it...

All a captain needs to do is command the respect of the players.

Del Piero does that.

People put too much emphasis on who is captain. Do you think senior players in teams don't speak or that players don't listen to them because they aren't captain?

do you really need to write an essay to say that you want a fighter or a more vocal player as a captain?
