Del Piero: «I can’t wait to play»
«I am well, am training to the full ad will continue to do so for these 15 days to get to the 22nd and be at the disposal of the coach». Alessandro Del Piero is urging to go. The Juventus captian, on the sidelines of the All Blacks and White project (see article), spoke of football, while waiting to return to the field. The wait is about to come to an end, seeing that he should be available when the championship continues. Against Udinese, finally, we will be able to see Alex in a duo with Diego and even in this case expectations are high: «More then anything else I can’t wait to see myself at work since I have not played up to now and then consequently to see myself with Diego and my other mates. I really can’t wait to play».
When Del Piero returns he will find a tough competition. Ferrara cannot guarantee a place to anyone and he declared he will choose with his mind and not with his heart: «This is only fair – commented the captian – He must choose in this way and let us hope we create difficulties for him, that we are all available to play many matches and therefore to advance in the Champions League and the Coppa Italia and therefore have more chances».
There is still quite some time before the match against Inter, but the attention of many is already on the direct encounter: «We must not think of Inter now. It is not the right time and it would not be the right thing to do on our part. We must make a step at a time and the next match is against Udinese. It is not over in one match and even if we do really well against Inter, if we do not do well in the other matches, the final result would be the same and we would still be behind».
President Jean-Claude Blanc said that when the championship continues he would like to see a hungry Juve: «That’s right. Hungry is the right word to use. It is very important to be so. We must take what is good, and there were many positive things, try to limit the defects and find consistency. This is what can make the difference».
Before addressing the journalists in the press conference of the presentation of the All Blacks and White project, Alex exchanged his jersey with Ritchie McCaw the New Zealand rugby national team captain. It was an occasion for the two sports to meet, a sort of third half which is traditional in rugbhy but which cannot take-off in football: «It is a characteristic which is unique to rugby – explained Mc Caw – we fight as much as we can for all of the match but at the end it is our tradition to go to dinner or to have adrink together. We are proud of this and I think it is a way of manifesting our respect towards our opponen ts and the sport itself».
«The third half of rugby players is a different culture which I think each of us envies – underlined Alex – In this they are certainly superior. They are two close sports, in both there is contact, phyiscity and tactics. Certainly, the third half in football would allow all to live the post-match serenely».
Another aspect which Del Piero and the All Blacks have in common is pulling out their tounge. The New Zealand players, in fact, during the Haka, the traditional dance carried out before each match, pull out their tounges to their opponents: «The Haka is very important in new Zealand culture -explained the rugby player – Turning your eyes and pulling out your tounge is done to scare the opponents and see if they have the courage to llok us in the face».
«I saw them perform the Haka many times – concluded Del Piero – but when I pulled out my tounge the first time it was not to copy them but a spontaneous thing and then it was repeated in a fun way. If I hope to do it against Inter? I hope even before».
