“Competition for places is healthy, [Coach Ciro] Ferrara makes his decisions and that’s how it should be.

“We players try to make it difficult for him by being ready for as many games as possible, which means going on in the Champions League and Coppa Italia.
Wise words.

Del Piero and Diego show

Juventus’ preparation continues notwithstanding the many absentees (12 players) due to international commitments with their respective countries. In contrast to yesterday’s session, Ciro Ferrara could once again count on the presence of David Trezeguet who returned to training after suffering from a sore throat. The bianconeri, after the warm-up and one-on-one technical exercises took part in a mini-match on a reduced field which saw the participation of Del Piero and Marchisio. The captain seemed to be in great shape, just like Diego, who was his opponent for the day: both scored goals and were the authors of great football. Sissoko worked separately while Jonathan Zebina benefitted of a day off.

I can't wait to see Del Piero back.

Just watched a few of his tricks on Youtube, he's truly a legend of the game, a one of a kind!

He's just a legend when it comes to Champions League. He should play every UCL game!

BRING BACK DEL!

Del Piero: «I can’t wait to play»

«I am well, am training to the full ad will continue to do so for these 15 days to get to the 22nd and be at the disposal of the coach». Alessandro Del Piero is urging to go. The Juventus captian, on the sidelines of the All Blacks and White project (see article), spoke of football, while waiting to return to the field. The wait is about to come to an end, seeing that he should be available when the championship continues. Against Udinese, finally, we will be able to see Alex in a duo with Diego and even in this case expectations are high: «More then anything else I can’t wait to see myself at work since I have not played up to now and then consequently to see myself with Diego and my other mates. I really can’t wait to play».

When Del Piero returns he will find a tough competition. Ferrara cannot guarantee a place to anyone and he declared he will choose with his mind and not with his heart: «This is only fair – commented the captian – He must choose in this way and let us hope we create difficulties for him, that we are all available to play many matches and therefore to advance in the Champions League and the Coppa Italia and therefore have more chances».

There is still quite some time before the match against Inter, but the attention of many is already on the direct encounter: «We must not think of Inter now. It is not the right time and it would not be the right thing to do on our part. We must make a step at a time and the next match is against Udinese. It is not over in one match and even if we do really well against Inter, if we do not do well in the other matches, the final result would be the same and we would still be behind».

President Jean-Claude Blanc said that when the championship continues he would like to see a hungry Juve: «That’s right. Hungry is the right word to use. It is very important to be so. We must take what is good, and there were many positive things, try to limit the defects and find consistency. This is what can make the difference».

Before addressing the journalists in the press conference of the presentation of the All Blacks and White project, Alex exchanged his jersey with Ritchie McCaw the New Zealand rugby national team captain. It was an occasion for the two sports to meet, a sort of third half which is traditional in rugbhy but which cannot take-off in football: «It is a characteristic which is unique to rugby – explained Mc Caw – we fight as much as we can for all of the match but at the end it is our tradition to go to dinner or to have adrink together. We are proud of this and I think it is a way of manifesting our respect towards our opponen ts and the sport itself».

«The third half of rugby players is a different culture which I think each of us envies – underlined Alex – In this they are certainly superior. They are two close sports, in both there is contact, phyiscity and tactics. Certainly, the third half in football would allow all to live the post-match serenely».

Another aspect which Del Piero and the All Blacks have in common is pulling out their tounge. The New Zealand players, in fact, during the Haka, the traditional dance carried out before each match, pull out their tounges to their opponents: «The Haka is very important in new Zealand culture -explained the rugby player – Turning your eyes and pulling out your tounge is done to scare the opponents and see if they have the courage to llok us in the face».

«I saw them perform the Haka many times – concluded Del Piero – but when I pulled out my tounge the first time it was not to copy them but a spontaneous thing and then it was repeated in a fun way. If I hope to do it against Inter? I hope even before».

Del Piero was hard work, says Didi Friday 13 November, 2009

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Marseille Coach Didier Deschamps have recalled how hard it was to train Alessandro Del Piero when he was in charge of Juventus.

Deschamps left Juventus in May 2007 after just one season, having led the Bianconeri to promotion from Serie B following the Calciopoli scandal.

Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Deschamps was asked if Del Piero and Diego could play together.

That’s what they asked Ferrara when we paid a visit to Nyon. The people want all the stars on the pitch at the same time, but he has to think about balance,” Deschamps said.

My reply is 'no’. It’s got to be one or the other.”

The 41-year-old, who spent five years with Juventus as a player, went on to suggest that Ferrara would have a hard time keeping Del Piero out of the side.

“It’s complicated, also because knowing Ale I don’t know how he will take certain decisions. I struggled for an entire year because at Juve you always speak about him, every day, in good and in bad, and now that I am no longer in charge I am a lot calmer.

Now it’s Ciro’s problem, but when he played he was always rather close to Del Piero. I don’t envy him. It’s more difficult for those players who have become trainers to still be a player.

“The trainer makes the decisions, so there has to be a degree of distance. For those trainers who have once been someone’s team-mate it’s hard work making others understand it,” Deschamps concluded.
