Del Piero eyes double comeback
Alessandro Del Piero can’t wait to make his comeback after the break for international duty so he can help Juventus and the World Cup squad.
The captain has been sidelined for most of the campaign with a series of injuries, but is back training with the side and aims to return against Udinese.
“I wasn’t accustomed to injuries any more, as the last major one I had was four years ago,” said the man who turns 35 on Monday.
“In my hometown they say you need to get the best out of a bad thing, even if it means digging for it.”
He told the Gazzetta dello Sport that there is another advantage to missing several months of the season – preparing for the 2010 World Cup.
“At least I’ll be more rested come the end of the season...”
The Bianconeri travel to Atalanta this evening with only one available striker, as Amauri is suspended with Del Piero and Vincenzo Iaquinta injured.
Diego said this week he can’t wait to finally play alongside Del Piero in their 4-2-3-1 system.
“He can’t wait? What about me?!” joked the veteran. “I will return with more hunger than before, not that I was lacking in that respect.
“As for the tactics, [Coach Ciro] Ferrara is right, we shouldn’t get bogged down in specific numbers.”
