that's true, but seeing Ale's performances since WC 2006, one can always be optimistic
Of course you can be optimistic, but you have to throw a dash of realism into your recipe for Del Piero success.
The bottom line is the team needs him. Its prety obvious. You can't have a 4-3-1-2 formation when neither Amauri or Iaquinta have the skills to be a support striker.
Only Del Piero has that right now. Giovinco seems to have found a home (I hope) playing on the wing in a 4-2-3-1.
Not to bring up this guy's name again, but one of the reasons why I wanted Giuseppe Rossi here was because he can play the role of a support striker, he has the characteristics for it. He would have been the perfect understudy to Alex.
Right now, the strikers are too identical in what they can do and cannot do. It was blatantly obvious when Iaquinta and Amauri were paired together. Either they were playing too far wide from each other to make an impact,or they were getting in each other's way.
But you can't place the blame totally on their shoulders. They are being asked to do what the coach wants them to do. Problem is, one, or both, cannot do what alex does inthat formation
