Ferrara is critical of Del Piero in the post match interview. :D
Ferrara: Mission Accomplished!
Sunday 24 May, 2009
Ciro Ferrara is celebrating his first Juventus match and the fact he has already taken the team to automatic Champions League qualification.

“It was a wonderful day, but above all I am happy with the reaction and performance of the squad,” said the new Coach who replaced Claudio Ranieri this week.

Thanks to the 3-0 victory away to Siena, Fiorentina's 1-1 at Lecce and Milan's 3-2 home defeat to Roma, Juve are guaranteed a top three finish.

One of Ferrara's first moves was bringing Alessandro Del Piero back to the starting XI and he was repaid with a brace.

“I had to tell him off, as he needs to let me be more relaxed on the bench!” laughed Ferrara.

“He had the chances to finish off the game and should've taken them. He scored a good third, but he needs to help us all take it a bit easier.

“I wasn't here in previous games, so I don't know what happened and what was asked of the players. I know that I did request lots of hard work from Del Piero both in attack and coming back to help the defence.”

It was Juventus' first win since March after a seven-match winless streak and marked a big turnaround from recent performances.

“Siena had a very strong start and created a few problems for us, but for the rest of the time I think Juve played with a real spirit of sacrifice from all its men.

“I believe that when there is a change of management, there is always going to be a shake-up in terms of motivation.

“Even if it wasn't me on the bench, the players would've felt responsible and realised exactly what it is we're gambling with here.

“We had to go and get the direct Champions League qualification and perhaps something a little more.”

Ferrara has said he wanted to make it a permanent job on the Bianconeri bench, but faces competition from Bari boss Antonio Conte.

“Conte sent me a message wishing me luck.”

Del Piero 'didn't understand' Ranieri

Sunday 24 May, 2009

Alessandro Del Piero sent a scathing message to Claudio Ranieri after scoring a brace on his comeback.

“I think that Ranieri has a way of seeing things that only he can truly explain.”

The Juventus captain had been repeatedly dropped by the previous tactician, but Ciro Ferrara put him in the starting XI and he scored twice in the 3-0 win at Siena.

“I always put in the utmost effort,” assured Alex. “I am happy to have scored two goals on Ferrara’s debut, but don’t forget I had netted 19 with Ranieri.

“Unfortunately they’ve been lacking recently and I’m sorry we arrived at this stage. Ferrara gave me confidence and kept that up throughout the game.”

Del Piero did have some words of comfort for the Coach who was fired on Monday, though.

“One has to admit that in times of victory we were all great, but during the difficult moments it’s not as if Ranieri was entirely to blame.

“Those who are called upon to play, like me today, have to give their all. The same happened with Pavel [Nedved] and Mauro [Camoranesi].”

It is a curious situation for Del Piero to be in, as he was once Ferrara’s teammate for both Juventus and Italy.

“I met him as a teammate and as the chief of the youth sector, but I must say he was ready and decisive at the first experience. It went well and that is the crucial thing about today.”

The victory has mathematically put Juventus in the Champions League without going through the preliminary round thanks to their superior head-to-head record against both Milan and Fiorentina.

Do you know what's incredible about the second goal scored by Del Piero? He is about to make the same mistake as he did some minutes earlier, where he was free with Curci trying to go round him. That time Curci read him and took the ball off him. This time the same thing was about to happen, Del Piero realizes it and so he fakes a shot which is what leaves Curci beaten. That's footballing brains for you.
Well its not how it went I believe. He made the keeper think he will try to pull the same trick and he faked the shit out of him.. He changed his course in the last millisecond or is that nanosecond :D

Del Piero on Ranieri: Ranieri made his choices during the season which only he can explain"
Nothing strange there he simply said the truth. Ranieri is one of the most unlogical coaches that i've seen in this sport for the past 20 years or so.

All he's comments, tactics, subs are strange. He say the wrong things all the time. When we win a great game with ranieri he's not satisfied with the team's performance and wants more but when we draw and our team really sucked he's ok with it and its fine !!!

And it wasn't suprising (atleast for me) that he screwed up at the end. With valencia he really had a strange way in doing things and toward the last days there every one in valencia (from the management to the players) had issues with him.

Well, I had a hard time describing the event in English, but you know what I mean. My point was that his thought process was the impressive part of the goal.
