hmmm, very mixed tonight, not the best of performances from ale, started of slow and sluggish, but in the second half brightened up, some moments of magic but also some moments of frustrating play of missplaced crosses, as with the freekicks, he is without doubt our best kicker, but there were times where he really should have crossed the ball not shot, i don't think he should be benched, i really think he needs a brace or soemthing, would do him good, benching him is not the way to go, his head will drop and his performances will go along with it

uggesting we bench "the old man" and telling him to move to Galaxy.

On a different note, @ Rab, I respect your opinions, I do. A lot of times you voice what I'm thinking and I'm so, so glad there's someone to stand up for Alex no matter what kind of game he's had. I wish I could be like that, but my head rules my heart.
Sometimes, though, he needs the criticism. He was a tad selfish. No, I don't think he needs to be benched, but I do think he needs to watch his game. Yes, he will answer his critics again, with a vengeance. And no, I'm not trying to pick up an argument. Please don't take this the wrong way, I just thought I should say something after your mention of "some posters" who don't know what they're saying.

I also think that he needs to watch his matches and focus more sometimes. But what pisses me off is that the man gets all kind of bashing and insults just because in their views he's not scoring. I feel sad for him, If I were in his shoes, after all these years, after all what I have given for this team, to receive all this hate just for not being that crucial like he's always been is really sad, and I wouldn't want to know how he would feel.

Press and Media are already always on his back whether he performs good or bad, they have something to say. I'm the first one to criticize Ale, and I mean it, but there's a good reason for that, good timing for that etc.

And I hope you didn't get offended with the "some posters"....they know themselves very well, they have written off Alex more than god knows how many times, since years up till now they never lifted their bashing on him.....and I don't think that has anything to do with his perfomance but personal hate/dislike.

rab we have been here before, don't you remember years ago, in 2004-2006, many people would criticise ale for the hell of it, the same ones who last year would claim they have supported ale all the time, when the going is good, they're all quick to praise ale, but as soon as he has a bad game they are there like hyenas ready to rip him up, this is the problem with the team relying on ale, when he's not amazing, we can suffer, and people will blame ale for that, i mean ale didn't even have a bad game, he was ok, bits of birlliance, but he wasn't bad, he was quiet, and lets not forget we were going for a draw 2 weeks ago and ale saved our ass

so i say we need some support for OUR CAPTAIN

Common ale!! :flag3:

Just come back to the pages 1244-1246 in a couple of weeks time, and you'll get a good laugh... guaranteed. ;)

If there's one thing I have learned on this forum, is to never criticize/doubt Del Piero too much, because I know that in no time he's gonna make my post sound so ridiculous and stupid, and make me eat my own words.

Alex is fighting for 50

Juventus striker Alessandro Del Piero is looking to score his 50th European goal against BATE Borisov this evening.

The Old Lady started their Champions League adventure with a tight 1-0 win over Zenit St Petersburg, but the goals have dried up in Serie A since after draws with Catania and Sampdoria.

But Del Piero sees the trip to Belarus as the ideal chance to return to the score-sheet and he has 48 European goals to his name.

“I'm hoping that I will reach 50 European goals with Juventus - it would be good to get to that milestone,” he told the Corriere dello Sport.

“But BATE are a good side with lots of young players and they are very motivated at being in the Champions League.

“It's their first home tie in the competition proper and we will have to be very careful because they will want to do well.

“However, I'm not too worried - we will just have to make sure that we put our chances away.

“This Juventus team is capable of fighting for the Champions League and Serie A."

WTF? They got their stats wrong, Del Piero has 45 European goals in 108 games, not 48 goals.

40 in CL (including preliminary rounds)
2 in UEFA Cup
1 in Intertoto Cup
2 in Super Cup
TOTAL: 45

5 more to 50 :pint:

Yeah, I know how you feel. I'm just glad Alex is someone who actually excels in the face of adversity. If I were criticised the way he so often is, I'd hide in a hole in the darkest corner of the earth.

Anyway, didn't mean to drag on with this topic. Love the guy, and I'm sure he'll be okay once the team learn how to pass :)

In the meantime, keep defending Alex from the haters! :)

Alex is not perfect. Relax, he needs the criticism because he'll only prove em wrong again. I agree he was a tad selfish but it wouldn't warrant benching him immediately, the team as a whole was effed. He had his faults, and so did Juve. I'm sure we won't put him above the club.. and I'm sure it won't get to that point where we have to choose. Alex and Juve will recover people, despite the fact that we are being coached by Ranieri I just don't think Juve'd let this 'bad spell' go on much longer. Plus I'd rather screw up now than later in the season, where our peak performance is much needed.
