Always a pleasure to see a very good performance from Del Piero, bagging a hat trick and earning a standing ovation. Nothing is more satisfying to see DP playing so well at an age of 33.

Great game by Del piero , three goals scored beautifully . Did anyone notice the stading ovation he got from the Atalanta fans ? I garauntee you that very little , if not no players ever get standing ovations from the opposing fans in serie A . It just shows you the immeasurable respect Del piero has all over Italy .

17 goals , just 2 behind Borriello . I hope he becomes serie A's top scorer because without any bias , he truely deserves it . Also , Trez deserves a lot of credit for todays goal , his second setup was pure beauty .

Forza Del piero .

A goal by Trez could complete the celebrations today. Forza Ale anyway. 17 goals so far and an awesome performance by capitano makes him the most in-form Italian player in this season's league. Donadoni will make a fool of himself if he doesn't pick Ale for EUROs.

Delighted Del Piero Thanks His Team

Juventus icon Alessandro Del Piero was delighted with his hat-trick as his side beat Atalanta 4-0 and he was grateful to his team mates.

The Juventus forward scored a stunning hat-trick as he continues to tick all of the boxes on Donadoni’s final 23 man squad.

Juventus thus are now mathematically qualified for the Champions League and Del Piero has every chance of becoming Capocanoniere as he has now taken his tally to 17 for the season.

“Yes, it’s a nice moment and I am delighted with my performance today,” Del Piero told Domenica Stadio.

“However I must thank my team mates as they are the ones who provide be with assists and they deserve praise as well.

“Today’s result is a testimony to all the hard work we have put in this season.

“We have to enjoy this win and then concentrate for next week’s game and hopefully we can finish a great year on a high.

“As for Donadoni, we’ll have to see whether he calls me, of course, I would love to go to the Euro’s but again, it’s not my decision, it’s down to the coach.

Del Piero also spoke of his ambition to finish as Serie A's top scorer.

“I would be nice to challenge Borriello for the Capocanoniere title, fingers crossed,” concluded the captain.

After what Donadoni said in the press, it'd be criminal for him to reneg on his statement and not include Alex in his squad for Euro 2008.

Del Piero waiting for Don
Sunday 20 April, 2008

Alessandro Del Piero’s hat-trick puts him third in the Capocannoniere charts and he awaits a Euro 2008 call.

There is reportedly only one spare slot in the Azzurri squad for the tournament and it is contested between Del Piero and Antonio Cassano.

“I don’t feel we are in a race. I prefer to focus on doing well and I am happy that Cassano is also in good shape. At the end of the day we’re all waiting for the Coach’s decision.”

Roberto Donadoni had dropped the Juventus captain from international duty when Del Piero refused to be played out of position on wide midfield, but his stunning form – including today’s hat-trick at Atalanta – could force a recall.

“In the game against France I played as a wide midfielder. I can do that, but not with the same results I can guarantee as a forward,” he explained.

“There are no particular problems in that respect. I also spoke to Donadoni on the phone before his latest call-ups.”

The 4-0 victory in Bergamo this afternoon puts Juve almost mathematically in a Champions League spot for next season.

“Third place represents a great achievement and the ambition of this club is to always improve in every match and every competition. If we go to the Champions League it will be a different campaign.”
