Del Piero Still Has Azzurri Drive
In an age where early international retirement has is becoming increasingly the norm, Juventus icon Alessandro Del Piero has made no secrets about his determination to be part of the Azzurri squad for the big show in Switzerland and Austria this summer.

galleria zoom The 33-year-old has not played for Italy since his heavily criticised performance against France in the Euro 2008 qualifiers from last September, but at least on the surface he is calm that he will be able to win over his national team boss again with continued strong showings for his club.

"Donadoni wants responses on the field and I know I can give them to him," said Del Piero, who has scored 11 goals for the Bianconeri this term.

"I'm aware of the beautiful season I've had up to now and I want to finish even better.

"Then the coach has the freedom to make the choices he feels most appropriate. I must continue as I am."

Del Piero is set to make major headlines by breaking the all time appearance record for Juventus. At the moment Gaetano Scirea holds the record with 552 appearances, but 'il Pinturicchio' only needs two more to pull even with the Bianconeri great and cement even more permanently into the club's folklore.
