It is...he'll also be flying high considering that we'll play CL next year and Serie A.

anyway, i think it'll be a big loss for him not to break the Azzurri record which was pretty possible to make had he had more chances under Donadoni.
You mean the scoring record? That's extremely unlikely, his goal/game ratio is really low. It would take another 9 goals to top Riva.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Italy_national_football_team#Top_goalscorers

Statistically it would take another 28 caps, which would take 3-4 years.

But he will retire with almost 90 caps, that's pretty huge.

Btw if you count up all his stupid misses he gets close. WC98 vs Norway, Euro2000 final, Euro2004 vs Sweden with that lob. What could have been..

ahh don't remind me. i think had he scored the lob vs sweden and the ones in the 2000 final, people by now would be forgetting Baggio's performances/achievments with the NT.

Spiritually I'm around ;)

Donadoni has stated that the moment Amauri will get the Italian citizen-ship, he'll take him into consideration with the same chances that Alex and Cassano got:howler:

if anything it sould be: toni, del piero, cassano, borriello(if he keeps it up) and gilardino. but i think cassano wont go if dp goes and vice versa, and players like di natale and quagliarella will also have a say in the matter.

If it was up to me, I'd go with....Toni, Del Piero, Cassano and the rest should have equal chances IMO.

The three players I mentioned, are players that can make diff (though Cassano needs to get his head straight) but still they can make diff.

Di Natale has been doing very good with the NT but hasn't impressed me with Udinese.

Amauri shouldn't even be included to the chances part.

The problem with the NT is that Alex has never had a hot streak for Azzurri. Unless you count successive freekicks in qualifiers he's periodically delivered the game, but not the end result. Few goals from open play, and even among those many have been unconvincing flukes or tap-ins. That is the single strongest argument why he shouldn't be selected.

It's just the way of the world. Many famous players failed to shine in their national teams.
