Meanwhile, Ranieri has explained that he substituted Del Piero at half-time against Sampdoria so that he would be fit for the Inter game.

“I took him off because we are expecting the kind of battle he will excel in against the Nerazzurri,” the Bianconeri boss stated.

“It is a very important match against a great side and so I needed to conserve my players’ energies – that’s the only reason I would have substituted Alex.”

he should have kept del piero on anyway, but at least it's a relief he had a plan in mind

Del Piero In Veiled Ranieri Criticism

Juventus hero Alessandro Del Piero clearly did not agree with Claudio Ranieri’s ill-fated decision to substitute him in Sunday’s goalless draw with Sampdoria.

The Bianconeri dominated the first half of their Serie A game at the Stadio Olimpico, with David Trezeguet hitting the bar, having an effort cleared of the line, and Marco Marchionni missing an open goal.

However at half-time Ranieri illogically replaced Del Piero with Vincenzo Iaquinta, and Juve were dreadfully poor in the second-half, not creating a single chance.

In particular there was a distinct lack of creativity with Del Piero off the field, and the Golden Boy believes the Samp game proves that determination and hard work in football are not enough, if the quality is not there.

"The match against Samp showed that commitment and determination are not enough,” Del Piero told Tuttosport.

It is a shame that the teams ahead have earned two points on us.

Ranieri tried to explain Del Piero’s substitution by saying he believed the captain was slightly tired. The 33-year-old clearly disagrees with this.

"I am satisfied with my performance both on a physical and a technical level, which was in line with the good moment I am experiencing currently.

Together with my team-mates, I am ready for the next challenges.”

Juve face Inter in the Coppa Italia quarter-final first leg at San Siro on Wednesday evening.

If Ranieri was saving Alex for the Copp game, presumably he had decided before the game that he would make the change at half time.

If he didn't want to play Alex for 90 mins then he should have started Iaquinta and brought Alex on at half time or with 30mins to go once the defenders had tired and he could be more effective.

All in all what he did will remain mystery to me.

not only would the Juve fans go ape shit, But I'm sure if the board screws ale, then you can bet Neddy, Buffon, Camo, Chiellini, and Trez will leave as well.
