Juventus skipper Alex Del Piero was pleased with the Bianconeri’s performance in the Trofeo Birra Moretti, despite losing to Inter.

The prestigious tournament took place at the Stadio San Paolo on Wednesday, when the Old Lady defeated Napoli in the first 45-minute game before losing the decider with the Italian champions.

“We played well last night,” said Del Piero on his personal website. “It was a nice evening and you could feel that we are close to the start of a new season.

“We played two good matches and I am happy I was able to score,” added the world champion, who earned Juve’s win over the home side thanks to a powerful left-foot strike from 20 yards.

Many expected the player to be off-colour after rumours on Wednesday suggested that contract renewal talks with the club had stalled.

Reports claimed that the Juventino was unhappy after being offered a new deal until 2009 at a reduced salary, as he was hoping for an extension until 2011.

Del Piero, however, has seemingly reached an agreement with the Serie B champions and is ready to sign a deal until 2010.

However, there are still details to be ironed out, with the striker reportedly set to agree to a 20 per cent decrease in wages.

The Juventus captain was particularly satisfied with the way he played so far in the pre-season and is looking forward to the new championship ahead.

Alessandro Del Piero was not too worried about the defeat suffered by the Bianconeri against Inter on Wednesday evening, as the Juventus forward expressed his satisfaction for the way the Old Lady played.

"It was a night of celebration and pre-season atmosphere at the San Paolo stadium of Naples," he said.

"We played two good games and I'm happy to have scored a goal."

Del Piero, in fact, scored the winner for Juventus with a great shot from the distance against Napoli, but in the second mini-game of 45 minutes against Inter, Pinturicchio was not fielded as Coach Claudio Ranieri opted to rest him and give more space to other reserve players.

Juventus and Inter will meet again on Tuesday as they play in the Trofeo Tim in a triangular tournament which also features Milan.

Del Piero will always be Del Piero...
I can see the great man doing great things this coming season..
I hope CR is not another Capello that bench our captain and prefer Iaquinta and Trez partnership...

i admire alex for his ability to play well with his both foot, jst remember how many beautiful goals he has scored with his wrong foot.. ( "Wrong foot" sounds bad for ale, his both foot are right :D)
he never gives advantage to his right foot while playing, beside kicking penalties or free kicks..
