I don't think Ale is really focusing that much on it, as much as press and media are giving it lot of attension and tension. They should let him play on his own and stop writting on their papers about the 200 goals. But then again, Media can never get the divorce paper from Del Piero.
Nah, that's way too easy. You can clearly see from his play, that he is desperately looking for that 200th goal. His play and the team's play is suffering from it.

:toast: Del Piero is in a class by himself. There will never be another like him and without a doubt Juve must retire the number 10. Even if there is someone who comes around equally skilled and talented, his love and loyalty for Juve can never be matched.

Hi there and welcome to Juventuz!

In response to your post:

When the next superstar comes along, I think it's important that we have the no. 10 jersey available. Del Piero has done extremely well for this club and he is a legend, without a doubt, but no one is big enough to have the no. 10 jersey retired in his honor. It would put this person above the club.

I understand your sentiments, though.. I know why you'd like to see it happen. But I just think it would be a silly thing to do in the long term, and I'm sure even Del Piero would agree with that. After all, he is someone who has always wanted the best for Juve.

A great club always aims to field a side with great defenders, great attackers and a marvellous no. 10!

We have been able to do that in more than just one era, something we should take a lot of pride from, and long may it continue!

I just can't see a major European side like us retire the no. 10 jersey. I'm against it. We've had some brilliant players wearing it before and there will be others.

He is respected by all Juve fans, Italians, citizens of the World, and this will never change. There's no reason why we should elevate him to such heights that he will be bigger than the club itself. The no. 10 jersey is a symbol created before his time, and it should stay.

i know that he is a legend in this club. But this club has great history and prestige in Italy and Europe, we can't just retire a jersey.

Before Alex the great Roberto Baggio wore that no.10, and Alex knew that and took that responsibilty and became a great player himself. Lets give another player that chance in the future.

Also we dont want to live in the past after Alex finishes his career, we will need to look to the future.

I am not saying we must retire the jersey...but dont u think that Alex has done a lot more than Baggio?!!!! i used 2 adore Baggio, but Alex made all of us forget his impact on Juve coz he did more !

He definately did more, but like sateeh said: "We must look to the future". Living in the past can be harmful in many ways. This club was founded on the principle of excellence, being the very best, and if thoughts like "There will never be another Del Piero" manifest within the club I think we could be heading for some kind of a downfall. Juventus is all about breaking previous records and constantly improving, and the day we stop thinking we can achieve this will be the day of our decline.

as much as i love del piero i have to agree with Jarl of Europe and sateeh that the number 10 jersey should not be retired to anyone even in the future. But i believe there will never be anyone like ale and if anyone deserves it most in my opinion it would be him.
