From the new Juventus.com:

Whenever you hear the name “Juventus” or see the famous black & white shirt, you immediately visualize one face: Alessandro Del Piero. Mr Juventus. He’s the man who has rewritten club history through number of appearances and goals scored, both in Europe and Serie A. He is the captain, the key player and the symbol of more than a hundred years of history. An idol, not only for the Juventus faithful but for any football fan, it’s no coincidence that in the most celebrated football stadia throughout the world, from the Bernabeu to Old Trafford, Alex leaves the field to a standing ovation. He’s one of the few players whose name is attributed to a style of shooting. When the ball is hit from one side of the penalty area and curls in just under the bar, it’s called a “goal in Del Piero’s style”. Listing his successes, describing his exquisite technique and undisputed leadership would be pointless and perhaps counter productive. To understand his greatness, we can borrow an example from NBA, the American Basketball Championship, which amongst other things; Alex takes a keen interest in. In front of the United Centre, where the Chicago Bulls play, there is a statue dedicated to Michael Jordan. On the statue there is a plaque bearing the inscription “The best there ever was, the best there ever will be.” The same can be applied, undoubtedly, to Alessandro Del Piero.

I just read in La Stampa that the last problem before the signings is that the club wants to control Ale's sponsorship deals, so there won't be any conflicts with the club's sponsors...

:sergio:
Makes sense. I'm more than certain that this isn't a "problem" though & I'm even more certain that all our players have similar clauses in their contract.

It's amazing, he suffers to get this contract, like the board is doing him some kind of favour, while he's not only our biggest symbol but our current best player. That's an absurd.
You're right. That is absurd.

Report: Del Piero agrees contract
Alessandro Del Piero is reportedly ready to put pen to paper on a new contract with Juventus.

The captain’s current deal expires on June 30 and negotiations have been dragged on to this late stage.

According to the latest reports from Turin, Del Piero has reached a basic agreement for a one-year extension.

It will provide €1m per season – a massive drop from the €4m he earns at the moment.

There will also be clauses and performance-related bonus elements to the deal.

Del Piero has been with the Bianconeri since joining their youth academy in 1993 and will turn 37 in November.
