How often does bendtner do this? There are a lot of talented players who score vital goals or assist them and they are by far captain material. Scoring vital goals youself is talent, while making others around you play better score assist is being influantial and thats what a captain should be, an influential figure on the field, for people to look at when the odds are down.

Even said this, I still think Del Piero is a good captain, but certainly not the best in the world and in my oppinion not even near the best in the world. Imo a captain should have both characteristics that Azzurri7 and poet mentioned although it should be more to the poets side at least on the pitch, your captain should be the first one to bleed for the team on the pitch, while off it he should certainly not be like JT and should show class.

I never said DP was the best captain in the world,in fact nobody in this thread did.You're just trying to be an ass because there are some that love DP way too much.I for one am not a huge DP fan like Rab but i can say without a shadow of a doubt that DP has been one of the best captains for Juventus.

You don'T have a clue how much I hate Ballack. A player that has no brain and walks next to the game without being involved, when involved then only to make disgusting tackles, jeez I hate him.

He leads by example. He demands the respect of all around him. He speak FOR the club. His heart beats FOR the club. He is the one player on the field, who whenever the chips are down, and all other heads have drooped, his head remains HIGH, PROUD, DETERMINED, WAR-LIKE.

Del Piero has never shown intense determination. He has never commanded the troops other than through decency, which is enough for some players, as long as there is a manager who demands the DETERMINATION and WAR, but without this, DP, as a capitano, is exposed, as nothing more than a warm hearted, honourable, ultra loyal, ultra nice man. Nice...can be lame. Especially in football. I prefer vicious, and war like, as modern football demands, to Nice and Lame and Loyal.

I can see, very clearly why people consider DP a great captain, but personally, when I am used to captains, like...Roy Keane...John Terry...Baresi...Dunga...Gerrard...Ballack...Puyol.

All of the above, FIGHT, as much as they play. as much as they show loyalty...as much as they show honour...

Del Piero is the one of the greatest Captains in football world, if not the greatest, and it's not up to you or the other thegutterpoem to say what he lacks to be a great Captain. Players, Coaches and fans worldwide witness that this man has been nothing but a Classy captain and an example to every single footballer in this world.

Professional players are dreaming to be like Alex, dreaming to have his charisma, characteristic and value on the pitch, so don't go around undervaluing him and disrespecting him and then expecting no one to reply to you and act like dumb now saying what is going on.

On a serious note, you might be right, Del Piero cares about nothing but scoring goals....I mean playing as a bench player under Capello for two years makes him one, playing two seasons without CL and a season in Serie B always makes him one.

If a great captain is one who admits that he wanted to injure players on the field, then I'm sorry Del Piero is not a great captain. If a great captain is one who lets his team mates run around and intimidate the ref and mock him on the field, then I'm sorry Del Piero isn't one.

But if a great captain is one who commands respect without having to utter a word, bring fear to the opponents hearts without showing a sign of anger on his face, if a great captain is one whom even the opponents fans respect, then Del Piero definitely is one. I don't know if he's the best captain in the world, because its not quantifiable. But he's definitely one of the best. To put the likes of Terry, Ballack, Roy Keane over him is ignorant and stupid.

i cannot believe those members...i read the posts and don't believe it..i can't imagine a bianconero can disrespect Alex...i would say that that one who disrespects Alex, or saying that he ain't worthy of that arm band, or that he is selfish shouldn't even call himself a fan of Juve.
