come on, tell the truth- none of lippi's attackers is good as ale.

every corner worth a goal, every FK worth a goal, every touch is a magic.

Ale will get to SA, cause that's what he always do. they say 'no way', he say 'my way', and he gets there. it was like that in 2008, it will be like that next summer.

Buffon

Grosso - Cannavaro - Chiellini - Zambrotta

Camoranesi - De Rossi - Pirlo

Rossi

Iaquinta - Del Piero

I can give you like 6 other formations
What about this.

Camoranesi - di Natale
----------Amauri

or

Rossi - di Natale
----Amauri

In my opinion right now there is only 2 italians that are capable to be that number 10 behind the strikers on the highest stage and none of them will be there at SA, probably both Totti and Cassano will stay home, maybe Giovinco will prove himself this season. Rossi is a good player, but he isn't Diego or Cassano. I highly doubt such attacking three as you posted would work. And that lack of trequartista fucks up Alex too, cause he is kinda ineffective in 4321 and could be a definite starter only if the formation changed to 442 (no proper left winger currently there) or 4312 (no #10), so i find it kinda hard to see how Italy is going to play anything else than 4321, and in that case di Natale is a lot more needed than three box strikers and DP, who probably would be supersub. But it isn't summer of 2010 yet, so it's pure speculation.

Yeah but what's your point exactly? My point is that Del Piero is simply a better option that Di Natale.

You shouldn't look at it this way, Lippi in WC-06 was changing his formation even during games, at times playing with 4 attackers, though right now he's sticking more to 4-3-1-2 but I doubt he'll stick with it in every single match.

However my problem isn't with the formation he's playing but with players he's picking.

1- Camoranesi hasn't played 1 combined hour for Juve this season and he's selected.

2- Di Natale has been injured for sometime now and he's picked like a thunder light.

3- Why on earth Gila is picked?

It's already obvious that Totti wont return and Lippi wont call Cassano, why leave Del Piero who has scored more goals more than any other Italian for the past 3years? Even for Friendly matches and qualifiers he's needed to at least adapt into the system. Weird if you ask me.

This definetly ain't the strongest italian team possible and i've some question's to Lippi too, but regarding DP's situation - yes, he's needed, but so is di Natale, who is way more versatile and also hasn't been bad in the last few years. The bad point about your selection was that di Natale wasn't there and not that DP was there. If SA started tommorow i'd pick Udinese guy ahead of Del Piero, but right now it's just pure speculation and we don't know what the situation will be after a year.

I hope so *.

* Only if Ale is being called up for the World Cup of course. Otherwise, I hope Cassano stays at home and Lippi regrets his decisions eventually
So you'd be OK to see Gigi, Canna, Grosso, Kiello, Camo, Iaquinta, and Amauri fail big time at WC, in order to see Lippi regret his decision about some Cassano guy?

Enjoy the World Cup :D

I see Di Natale a good player for his Udinese team and I see Del Piero as Del Piero TBH.

Sometimes playing for a small team can turn a player into potential in people's eyes. But to me it's obvious Di Natale will just never be half what Del Piero was and is right now.

He can be versatile my friend, but it's what he's capable of doing on the pitch and what he can add.

Give Del Piero for once a good role in the Azzurri team and you'll see what exactly i'm talking about.

He will play. Actually I think he might start, since Iaquinta will have played with the NT and could use the rest. Excellent opportunity to start DP with Amauri.

I can't wait to see Diego and Del Piero play together, both such intelligent players, should be a sheer joy to watch. These two can make some serious magic happen. Such a shame we have to wait 2 weeks.
