hail to your choice for toni and inzaghi up front
they will make superb partnership provided either del piero or totti is behind them

but cannavaro as wing back?
he's slow and his dribbling skills sucks
its a joke
i'd say the only best choice for italy's right wing back would have to be oddo
he's not much of a superstar as the rest of the squad but what other choice do we have?

unless zambro's on the right and grosso on the left
italy can't afford to put in both del piero and totti as well.....not anymore
both are ageing and plays with almost the same techniques
except if lippi opts for a 3-5-2 formation
de rossi should be in the squad as well

buffon
zambrotta, cannavaro, nesta, grosso
pirlo
gattuso, de rossi
totti
toni, inzaghi

this formation lacks the width in it but it contains many midfield generals
it will be a midfield domination for italy
especially when they go up against the likes of lampard and gerrard, or zidane and vieira
camoranesi and fiore makes a good option to overcome the flanks problem

The right back seems to be a problem for Italy..... with Panucci 90% out, and Zambrotta not working wonders on the right flank... its gonna be a weak spot.

Why are you guys including Panucci in your line-ups? Granted it's a perfect situation scenario, but a hint of realism would suggest that we're not Lippi and Panucci isnt going to be in the squad no matter what.
Isn't this the "if I were lippi thread?" Coz if I were him I would take Panucci who is in good form this season.

Of course we all know the chances of Panucci making the NTs are close to nil...even with the great form. Coaches have their preferences.

I think the best italian line-up would be a 3-5-2. Emphasize more in midfield and attack, Italy can afford to sacrifice defense a bit.

When the OFFICIAL team is announced, feel free to open a new thread. Another fan's opinion is placed in THIS thread.

I did one before, the only change I did is removing Pirlo from the Squad and putting De Rossi in his place.

I would dearly love Italy to do well but i have serious question marks on some players as of the last 2 seasons they have fallen short of their high standrds and in some cases perhaps overrated
Nesta of late has come into some bit of form but i have to be honest, he has been average this season and last. Gatusso also seems to have lost a bit of form as well, yes he has scored 3 goals this season but the old biting and snapping at opponents seems to have gone away a bit from him and when he used to be untouchable at Milan, he now seems to be subbed more often than not by ancelotti of late. The biggest worry for me is the form of Pirlo which has ranged from average to very poor. He has been anonymous in too many games for Milan and against Germany, he perhaps was the only Italian player who did not really shine. I feel to win a big tournament , you do not necessarily have to have a great strikers at least France did not in 1998 but its imperative that the midfield is soundand creative , otherwise , for me there is no chance of winning. Pirlo has been very important to Italy's chances as he is the most creative midfielder they have. Milan's recent performances in the last 3 seasons have been mainly down to him and its no surprise they went to Barcelona with pirlo being so anonymous in both games
Totti's form is also a big worry and I have said it before Gilardino is not my cup of tea, i just hope it works out for him
