btw i had a debate with a milan fan who was surprised costacurta was not called to training camp. I dont like materazzi but costacurta is 40 years old and i found it a bit funny that italy would have to rely on player with so high age, whats going on? italy dont produce good defensive reserves anymore? This is scary, i cant imagine what is gona happen in 2010, if some talk about calling 40 years old players.

I dont think it would've been a bad idea to have called up Cassano, for the provisional team at least and seen what his gameplay is like at this point in time. Given the boy hasnt played for a better part of the season, and whatever little he did was not up to potential - but like it or not, the kid's got temperament. And when it comes to tournaments like the World Cup, that is all you need.
