Why? They're very well entitled to protest peacefully against the cartoons. Just as it is the right of Charlie Hebdo to publlish insulting cartoons it is only within the rights of Muslim to voice their objections to it, as long as this happens within the limits of the law. It's nothing more than freedom of expression as well.

Of course they have the right to protest peacefully. But it does show the mindset of some of these people- forcing people of other beliefs to conform with their own religion.

I used to run a forum once. There were trolls. I let them troll, freedom of expression and all that. Some people couldn't take it, they retaliated, very against the rules. I gave them a talking to. They calmed down, but still itching to unload their frustration. It's like there were these groups of like minded who were convinced that certain people should be banned from the forum forever for a little trolling.

We practiced this all ages ago.

Surely anything taking in excess is discouraged, no doubt about it, but that's not the case. The way I and most of the scholars around the globe see it will be according to the rule "ًWhat is clean and nice is halal and what is filthy and harmful is haram”, you wouldn't say that cigarettes are clean and nice, no?

I think cigarettes are nice, that's subjective. There's people who may think chewing gum is harmful and filthy.

I think cars could be a good example. You are literally "burning your money" with gas while you could walk, bike, or take public transportation instead. But that doesn't mean having a car is a bad thing,

I agree, it's subjective. A fine cigar tastes good and many people enjoy smoking them, flavored hookah is nice and fun once in a while, cigarettes depending on the brand are really nice too but I personally have never taken it up as a habit but do enjoy it time to time.
