I'm very sorry to hear all that about Davids. It's strange that, still, he gained his fame playing for the NT, during the Euros 2000, and then at his clubs, or at least this is the universal opinion.
Hmm pity about that, he could've been famous earlier, at euro '96... poor boy got sent home

Now this could end up like a thread which Ian is going to like. And you know why ? Because I am from David's side and Erik is against him. So this might end as Ian likes. But - wait - no Erik around. So I don't have whom to tell my own opinions. End of story.

    HOLLAND LINE-UP

All newspapers in NL agree: Holland will be playing 4-5-1

    From right to left:
    Van der Sar
Reiziger -- Stam -- De Boer -- Cocu
    Davids--Van Bommel
Van der Vaart -- Kluivert -- Overmars
    Van Nistelrooy

A very strong and experienced squad.

Cocu as left back is a good choice as Zenden was terrible last match against the Austrians. For those of you who aren't very familiar with Cocu - if you think Zambrotta makes a good left back then so too does Cocu ;)

Van der Vaart on the right is a loose position. The midfield will be changing A LOT which makes it very hard to defend. Expect Overmars and Van der Vaart to switch places all the time and the same goes for Davids (who recovered from injury on time for the match). He'll be defending a lot, together with Van Bommel but in possession, he'll probably switch into Kluivert's position when he can so that Kluivert can partner Van Nistelrooy up front.

PS > I'm in The Hague and I don't have an internet connection at my appartment (I'm typing this at uni) so I can't report on the match but if you want to know how it went, check www.footballnl.com
It's a very reliable site who will have the latest news surrounding Oranje

Whoa, poor Czechs, they're gonna be really focused to win this one I'm afraid ;). I like the team, I like it very much, especially Davids, Cocu, Overmars and VDV ... great positions, intriguing attack indeed ... And I'll miss Makaay ...

That's a very dangerous looking formation for both sides. Luckily, I think that Holland have the edge in this game, if only because Van der Sar is so much better than the Czech keeper.

Yep, poor play by Holland backline after Davids sent off.
The Czech midline was so dicipline to maintain the team's coordination. Nedved was everywhere....good play also by Poborsky, Rosicky and Smicer.
AS for Holland I think they played with no spirit, they get frustated and look at what RvN doing in bench after van Hoijdoonk replaced him  So childish...
Well done for The Czech Rep. :thumb: but I still want Holland will qualified as well :)

Sorry but that's absolute rubbish. Our players were dazzled after the sent-off, we play total football and when a player is sent off, it is more disastrous to us then it would be to other teams. As for Van Nistelrooy's reaction - do you seriously want them to keep every emotion inside? Don't you love the raw emotions that are such a big part of football?

About the match, it was already never going to be easy but with ten men against the Czechs (who I personally see as Europe's best team at this point) it's an impossible mission.

Great drama touch of the evening (taken from a newspaper):
As Milan Baros scored the final goal to make it three one, the team collapsed. Fatigue, frustration and injustice soared through the nation. Seconds after the final whistle, a 12 second long power outage struck Amsterdam. Sky scrapers went dark, subways stopped in their tracks and the capital came to a stand-still. Out of shock, so it seemed."

But we're still here! The team is a tighter group than ever! This result made them realise that they're not invincible after an unbeaten streak of 17 matches and realism is a strong virtue. Saddle your horses, the play-offs remain! :strong:

Two tackles (the last one in the penalty area) for which he both received yellow cards. He was sent off in the 13th minute and rightfully so, no refereeing errors there. :wallbang:

injury time, van der sar for some reason goes to the half field line(to cheerlead i think) while Holland take a corner or sth, but then the czech dudes counter and baros gets the ball in the dutch half and vds runs back, but stops before entering the box and starts flapping at baros...u have to see it ;)
