Nina - most people actually think this isn't bold enough yet. 68% of Dutch peope (read that in a newspaper on Monday) want Kluivert out. The main reason being his arrogant play.

Ian - I suppose that excuse will have to do ;)
Didn't realise that about Kluivert....But all the times I've seen Holland play RVN has only played a handful of times...and I can't even remember seeing him score!...I know he's amazing for Man U, wish he was as good for Holland....

Details? What do you want? The colour of his underwear? He's playing, that's it :D

Suzanne - it's a mistery to me why two of the best strikers in Europe can't play together as they play at their clubs ...

I don't like him as well, but I really cannot imagine the team without him. He might be arrogant but he scores, something your other forwards kind of suck at.

Interesting fact, wanna share it ? :p

Thank God he finally has the occasion to show his potential. The problem is that, at the former club, he played as single striker. And now he has to play with RVN :frown:

, that's just it though, this is total football, we don't need strikers who do nothing but score, they're basically useless.

    Roy Makaay

With Holland’s first practice sessions over in the week of truth, Advocaat found himself facing a group of crocks on training day one. Makaay’s knee trouble is his biggest concern, but Hasselbaink, Van der Meyde and Stam also couldn’t join the squad in practice. Crunch time is advancing as Advocaat’s worries mount.

For Makaay, a sure replacement for suspended Van Nistelrooij against Austria, the injury comes as a huge disappointment. Makaay saved the day in Brussels after which the rest of the players found themselves at the end of some serious criticism from both media and fans.

Next in line Hasselbaink is nursing a strained groin but looks okay for Saturday. The same goes for Jaap Stam, whose back trouble should be resolved in the upcoming days. And van der Meyde’s ankle is not much of a concern either, but after twisting it during morning practice, he sat out the evening session. He replaces ‘scapegoat’ Seedorf in Advocaat’s squad.

‘He was unhappy about his position,’ explained Advocaat about leaving out the three time Champions League winner. Seedorf prefers a more central role than out on the right wing. ‘But I feel he can play there just fine. Seedorf felt more and more uncomfortable and his performances suffered with each game.’ Eventually his poor showing in Brussels was enough for Advocaat to axe the AC Milan star. But on that occasion he was just one of a group of Dutch failures, it has to be said.

On arrival the Dutch manager faced his squad of players with quite a serious talk on Tuesday morning. Part two of the talk was a players-only occasion to make sure all players realize what these two upcoming matches really mean. ‘You never know if a heart to heart like this helps the cause of the team, but I have a feeling it will.’

Advocaat finally addressed the critical sounds from the fans, saying he did agree partially with remarks made about his team. ‘But the attitude of the press has bothered me quite a bit,’ he added. ‘We play to bad qualifying matches and journalists panic.’ His team now has two crucial matches to set the record straight

    You just described RVN
PLEASE! RVN does much more than score. The guy has serious playmaking talent. You don't think that he wears the #10 for no reason, do you?

Whatever :D Why does he have to play for Merchandise ?

Kidding. Now lemme see. Usually, at least at his club, I've seen him waiting for the ball to get to him, and then striking (Tomasson style, but way more improved - faster and more precise). But, maybe you are right in your way - I mean, he's able to dribble, but only in the same area of jeopardy around the enemy goal ;). I'm confused. Clear me up :)

Advocaat Leaves Seedorf And De Boer Out Of Dutch Squad

09/01/2003. Holland coach Dick Advocaat has left Clarence Seedorf and Ronald De Boer out of his 22-man squad to play Austria and the Czech Republic in the Euro 2004 qualifiers.

Arjen Robben and Andy van der Meyde have been called up instead.

    FULL SQUAD

Van der Sar, Waterreus, Reiziger, F de Boer, Van Bronckhorst, Ooijer, Stam, Zenden, Sneijder, Bosvelt, Van Bommel, Overmars, Cocu, Davids, Van Hooijdonk, Robben, Van der Meyde, Makaay, Hasselbaink, Van Nistelrooij, Kluivert, van der Vaart.

But that's too bad, Holland will play without RvN against Austria.
Will Kluivert play as striker together with Makaay? Remember Dick Advocaat play him as a trequartista when Holland met Belgium. And that's really bad decision, he's not good at it.

I'd like to say that 4-4-2 is the best formula for Holland since they can't play wihout RvN. Van Der Vaart would be good as a second striker (along with Makaay)
No problem with the midfielder. Overmars, Cocu, Van Bommel and Zenden would be the best choice in midfield.
And Van Bronkhorst, De Boer, Stam and Reiziger are solid in backline.
So, it's time for partying....don't you think so? ;)

    FLY HOLLAND, FLY!
    THE WINGERS HAVE RETURNED

Coach Advocaat has given a signal that he wants to return to the winger system with the Dutch NT. Months of experimenting with centre players, Seedorf, Davids and Kluivert in triangles, Van der Vaart as playmaker and even Cocu as striker have resulted in the most dreadful play ever produced by the Hollanders so back to the roots it is!

Mind you though, Advocaat has no intention of making any sudden changes. Against the Czechs for example, analysts expect that only one wing will be operationable. These predictions are based on the General's comments earlier this week in which he said the following; "In Prague, the Czechs will be coming forward. They're playing at home and they need to win so I won't be sending our boys onto the field with the instruction to come forward, if I do that they'll be slaughtered by what I believe to be Europe's best national team at the moment."

Hence the national suspicion that Holland will be launching high-speed counter-attacks from the left wing, and the left wing only. With Zenden, Overmars, Van der Vaart, Robben and Davids all being more than capable of playing there, this part of the team will be the arrow, the sword and the bullet.

The Czechs are favourites for this game, everyone in both nations agrees on that. And last time the Czechs were favourite, they were eliminated from the WC qualifcations by the Belgians. Let's see if the guys from the north can do the same as their brothers from the south did two years ago.

    By Erik.

I wonder, will Davids start despite not playing at club level?
I think he will ... Advocaat sees him as a key player like Kluivert who has never started on the bench either.
