I don't know who it was, wasn't that walking disaster Merk though. Some tough guy with black hair who kept shouting. Aren't there more than just two international German referees?

    He's tall isn't he ? :scared:

Well, after all, the Dutch non-lyking by the Germans is well known. Stupid FIFA I'd say. They should have chosen a Romanian one :). We played with Ukraine and had a Russian :frown:

Advocaat Warns Premiership Stars To Quit

08/24/2003. Holland coach Dick Advocaat has warned four English based players to quit their clubs in order to preserve their international futures.

The former Rangers boss singled out Chelsea's Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, Boudewijn Zenden, Mario Melchiot and Arsenal's Giovanni Van Bronckhorst as needing to get regular first team action.

Advocaat feels he is a victim of Roman Abramovich's takeover at Stamford Bridge as his new signings have pushed the trio of Dutchman out of Claudio Ranier's first team.

"I have only one message for Hasselbaink, Melchiot, Zenden and Van Bronckhorst. Go to another club as soon as you can if you want to go with Holland to the European Championships in Portugal," Advocaat told the News Of The World.

"Why? Because I will only select players who are playing every week at the highest level.

"I understand the wages of these guys is a big problem. But they might have to go down in wages and find a smaller club where they can play every week.

"I am worried about my players in the Premiership - especially at Chelsea.

"I am now the victim of what is happening there as when they come to Holland they are fit but not match-fit. And I cannot take players who are not sharp."

Advocaat is absolutely right. If those players want to play with the NT they should leave their respective clubs because they're not going to get regular playing time. With the arrivals of Glen Johnson, Damien Duff and Hernan Crespo, the futures of Melchiot, Zenden and Hasselbaink look very grim indeed, and Van Bronkhorst was always second choice to Ashley Cole.

Indeed. I don't understand why since Ashley Cole is absolute rubbish but that's the way it is.

It's a shame because Dutch clubs cannot afford players like that anymore eventhough they want to return to Holland... Money has become too important!

    Thanks for the article, darksoul!

Advocaat Leaves Seedorf And De Boer Out Of Dutch Squad

09/01/2003. Holland coach Dick Advocaat has left Clarence Seedorf and Ronald De Boer out of his 22-man squad to play Austria and the Czech Republic in the Euro 2004 qualifiers.

Van der Sar, Waterreus, Reiziger, F de Boer, Van Bronckhorst, Ooijer, Stam, Zenden, Sneijder, Bosvelt, Van Bommel, Overmars, Cocu, Davids, Van Hooijdonk, Robben, Van der Meyde, Makaay, Hasselbaink, Van Nistelrooij, Kluivert, van der Vaart.

I haven't seen alot of Sneijder, but from what I have seen he looks like a talented player with a great deal of potential. It's good to see that Robben is in the squad as his versatility gives Advocaat more options but I still believe that the defence is Holland's weak point. Everything else is great, but apart from Stam, the Dutch defence is very ordinary.

Personally, I'd like to see RDB back in the squad, but that's mostly because I remember well the days when he and Bergkamp were the most dangerous attacking players in the world together. Anyway, there are many players who can play Seedorf's position, and he plays many matches because of his club. Besides, if Advocaat is replacing them with Robben and VDM, there's nothing but good happening.

PS. Erik, I bet you were wondering when I'd get onto this thread, but I only just noticed it's existence, I don't frequent the International socccer forum much...

Nina - most people actually think this isn't bold enough yet. 68% of Dutch peope (read that in a newspaper on Monday) want Kluivert out. The main reason being his arrogant play.

Ian - I suppose that excuse will have to do ;)
