I had a random thought and thought that it could be fueled into a life therom.

It should really be lower your standards and expectations actually :D

I mean like instead of longing for great clothes, if you could lower your standards to the point where they are already met (with your average clothes) then you will be satisfied, and not dissatisfied.

Dan, you really are the man. I was chatting with Fliakis tonight and was telling him that we want to travel to Lithuania. During the conversation he told me not to expect much. My reply was what I believe in how to approach life in general and situations in particular; what I believe in is: Expect the worst and hope for the best.

I would say it is basically the same as what you are saying.

actually lowering your standards doesnt allways mean lowering them to beggar level....it means turning it down a notch so that if you expect less u wont expect the best all the time ....which then means that u will be less stressed mentally ......overall the idea in general is not realistic due to the fact that expecting less all the time then allows the natural humans feelings to except punishment thus leading to ridicule thus making him or her a loser which is never a good thing due to the fact that thier confidence level in life has been dimenished completly and gives no purpose for life itself..

It can be practised but not for long.....it will take a toll on you mentally...humans will allways have greed, lust, jealousy embedded in them and that will then want them to have higher expectations

Punctuation next time please, its all one flowing sentence :D

anyway, from what i understand, this little theorum is about lowering your standards and expectations to the point where they are already met. If you expect punishment surely the times when you dont receive punishment will be a bonus, thus making you happy? Its an extreme example, but who gets punishment on a regular basis? :undecide: either that or i dont quite get what you are saying

they can often be ignored. It depends ultimately if you can shut off the human craving for power.

    maybe you should support Inter
Actually, thats a problem with supporting Juventus sometimes. Our expectations are so high that we are always dissapointed when we fall short, rather then being happy (lets say Ajax get knocked out in the quater finals- its unlikely that Ajax fans will get as mad as Juventus fans would given the same situation)

my bad with the run on sentence. My point is it wont work with everyone. The idea with "punishment" refers to excepting something lower than your standard, not a beating or physical punishment...

i had a discussion like that with an old person and from their experience thats exactly how you enjoy life
