How Racist Is Your Country On A Scale on 1 to 10? (1 Viewer)

Ive had this discussion with quite a few of my mates & South Africa is basically a country of immigrants.
Racial groups are divided as such:
Whites: Europeans,North Americans & Australians/New Zealanders.(I know about the aborigenes too)
Blacks
Coloureds: Yes a group that particularly exclusive to South Africa,basically people of mixed race.
Asians: Indians,Pakistanis etc
Now if you come to South Africa we love to tell the rest of the world that we are a "rainbow nation" but all in all we are a racist bunch.Let an argument begin & havoc reigns supreme.
I wanna know whats its like in your parts so i know where to stay clear away from.

Canada is one of only 2 countries that have an official policy of multiculturalism (at least as of last year when I was writing essays on multiculturalism at uni - the other is Australia, if memory serves. Haven't really seen anything to say otherwise since). We have had some very prominent racism in the past, but that was really to be expected when a country is blending so many different cultures and races.
The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms is an incredibly significant document, that many nations from around the world take into careful consideration when attempting to improve their own policies, as they pertain to multiculturalism, and general integration.
Racism obviously exists in Canada - and we have a history of racism; the French were mistreated for 100+ years and our Native Americans were absolutely raped of their territory and culture. We've had some pretty racist policies for immigration over the years, but over time they have been dramatically improved.
Today, Canada is generally a pretty damn harmonious and accepting place to live, considering how many ethnicities have been integrated into our social fabric.
I'd say that overall, Canada is a 3. I'm one upping Bes, because I think it's important to consider the solid approach and policies of our government, as they pertain to multiculturalism...
any other prime minister had issued that apology to natives i would have seriously considered the 3, but i just can't seem to find harper as "that guy"

On that note... curious article in today's NY Times about Oguchi Onyewu taking Jelle Van Damme to court for racist taunts during a Standard Liège-Anderlecht match:

basically, asking for nothing more than a public apology because Standard Liège didn't want to take up the issue.

Bes, there's no way in hell that I would support Harper in anything. That's Bush's lackey, and I have zero respect for him. Plus, he looks like he's a fucking android or something, with his rouged lips... and oh so pale.
As for the Scarborough comment, you're right. That hole is one of the most ethnically diverse places around . Generally, I agree with what you're saying...
It's just that because we hold a certain sway amongst the international community - due to the fact that Canadian policies are literally used as case studies by so many countries seeking to improve race relations (because of legislation that obviously came before the current Gov't, and has nothing to do with them), I'm patting myself and Canadians on the back here.
It's important to acknowledge that we still have issues with racism; it's just that when you consider how many people we've integrated, our track record and current social climate is quite impressive. Not to be a prick, but it's far, far more tolerant than our wonderful neighbors to the south...
