There's not a single black guy that doesn't smell "black" . I can't help it, but I really do smell them. A friend of mine does too. Perhaps it's because I lived a few years in Zambia when I was young and my friend has a lot of black friends and went to black Africa multiple times.

I've noticed that kind of thing too - but not with people who've grown up Irish (adopted), so I've long assumed that it's mainly dietary. From what I've heard, yes, there's an equivalent smell associated with us westerners.

If you take the fundamental issue of Heaven and Hell, then obviously the point is that you do have free will to choose, and your choices will determine how you end up. Otherwise there wouldn't be a heave and a hell, would there?

There's a moderately interesting philosophical question about free will which asks, assuming there is no free will, how can you punish someone for their actions?

Anyway, I'm fairly sure that my religious instructors were clear on the Catholic church believing in free will.

Er, that statement is internally inconsistent. Either we chose, or God does (or neither, but let's neglect that for the moment). You can't have it both ways.

Yeah that was more or less the problem: Theological Determinism. Meaning:

* God determines all that humans do.

Now if it had been about Causal Determinism, which you seem to be hinting at, I could've understood. Causal being:

* The Future = Past and Present Actions + Laws of Nature.

Since God is aware (omniscience) of the laws of nature and the actions and choices of man, he knows the future. But that doesn't interfere with free will. Theological Determinism, however, does. So I wasn't quite following this bloke :undecide:

yeah, I really wasn't going to get into this because it's right up there with the Trinity in terms of being able to fully get my head around it. In truth I can't give the exact X and Y re: how our free will works with God's sovereignty (in terms of answering questions along the lines of "if I decide to go and grab a coke from the fridge, is that because God wanted me to?)

Not so much their belief about homosexuality, but their interpretation of the character of God. More than that though, it's their actions and hate-mongering that really make me doubt the credibility of that lot.

You're saying they're claiming to be Christians but aren't. Well, there are a lot of people claiming to be religious who don't exactly act like it, including much of clergy up through the ages. So the question is how do you define if someone is Christian. Is it by what they really feel (which you can't verify) or is it by what they say?

Of course that doesn't exclude the possibility that Bush truly is a Christian, not just a poser, and still does what he does.
