Yeah I heard about it. They are very well prepared for the earthquakes, the people too, they know what to do, no one panicked.. It's really some achievement to resist it this way, but I guess there is no way to do something about the tsunami, and specially with this strength.
Not necessarily. It depends on the depth of the quake and the magnitude. This one was in the 6 range and apparently not shallow, plus I haven't seen any new Tsunami watches pop up on my screen.
It's an aftershock because it occurred after the main quake. Aftershocks are separate earth quakes. IF an aftershock is larger that the original earthquake, then the aftershock becomes the main event and the prior quake is know as a Foreshock.
Guys, aftershocks are centered around the same general location under the Earth's crust. If you feel an "aftershock" centered 200 miles away from the original quake, that's not an aftershock. That's a new quake.
