lol, the third strongest earthquake in the history of the world didnt manage to bring down a building, but two airplanes managed two bring down the world trade center......just sayin'....
Japanese sky scrapers are built to withstand earthquakes. The twin towers weren't built to withstand airplanes.

You gotta love their cool reactions, I would shit in my pants if I saw that with my own eyes.
The Japanese built those builds to do just that. I saw a program about their construction methods on Nova. It's really cool stuff.

All "new" buildings in Japan have been built to withstand 9.0 quakes.

If this was China, you'd see millions dead.

Yeah I heard about it. They are very well prepared for the earthquakes, the people too, they know what to do, no one panicked.. It's really some achievement to resist it this way, but I guess there is no way to do something about the tsunami, and specially with this strength.

Aftershock they meant?
No, new quake. The epicenter is on the opposite coast of Japan, the west side. That's a brand spankin' new location and quake.

Damn, does that mean there will be another Tsunami too?
Not necessarily. It depends on the depth of the quake and the magnitude. This one was in the 6 range and apparently not shallow, plus I haven't seen any new Tsunami watches pop up on my screen.

That's what I want to know.
It's an aftershock because it occurred after the main quake. Aftershocks are separate earth quakes. IF an aftershock is larger that the original earthquake, then the aftershock becomes the main event and the prior quake is know as a Foreshock.

In the end, it doesn't matter.

Guys, aftershocks are centered around the same general location under the Earth's crust. If you feel an "aftershock" centered 200 miles away from the original quake, that's not an aftershock. That's a new quake.
