Something hit me the other day, and for some reason i decided that i feel like learning Italian. Not necessarily be able to speak fluently or anything, but just to such a level that i can understand newspaper articles and 80% of what commentators are saying. Go ahead and laugh and say it'll never happen, but I care not. It's a beautiful language and i figure it'd be useful in that it'll open up the range of football material that will be useful to me :D

Sounds pretty random and even ridiculous, but i just feel like it.

So, any starting points from ppl who know Italian? e.g. sentence structure, starting points etc
i can't help you with italian darling.
i wish i knew myself....

the 2 languages that i speak perfectly are greek and serbian

Your English seems fine to me Lili. Can you speak it as well as you write?
That's an interesting question that I'd like to ask all of you, and it'd be interesting to hear you guys speaking English

Its a romance language so if you know spanish/portuguese/french it'll be easier for you, although comparing it from spanish some words/verbs are the same but the structure is slightly different. The pronunciation of stuff is more like spanish than french and its quite exactly like spanish except a couple of things
Yeah that's what I felt in the process of learning Spanish...:stress: which is, by the way, suspended...for some reasons...:lazy:

Hi :) I made a list with some online-resource providing an insight into German as your second/ third / fourth (and so on) language .. just take a look if you want and have fun!!!

    http://www.ex.ac.uk/german/abinitio/pronounce/
A pronounciation guide, with audio backup

    http://dict.leo.org/?lang=de
A German-English/ English-German dictionary; click the small "p" behind the German word and you'll hear the pronounciation

    http://www.germanfortravellers.com/learn/index2.html
Here you can find basic words, greetings, numbers and all the stuff you need to talk abou the weather and yourself (also with audio clips)

http://www.bbc.co.uk/education/languages/german/business/cl_index.shtml A collection of different infos about Germany, also basic language notes with exercises (for business matters). There are audio clips too but they didn't work. Maybe your pc can play them.

    http://www.wm.edu/CAS/modlang/grammnu.htm
    again grammar, pronounciation and vocabulary

    http://www.bdp.it/ictavagnacco/deutsch/
Another resource, just check it out ... preferrential for the Italian speaking

    http://derweg.org
That is an internet-magazin which was made for people learning German as a second language. All texts are written in German dealing with history, cities, education system and customs.

    http://www.learn-german.com/tests/deutschtest3-4.htm
Here you can test your grammar knowledge and you'll recieve a reporting about results via email, not adequate for beginners

I'll give you more links if you want, but at present it should be enough. For all those who have arlready learnt German I recommend the following links:

    http://www.zeit.de/
The "old lady" of the German newspaper-market. Articles are about politics, life, research, career, economics ... beautiful style of writing combined with good spelling

    http://www.sport1.de
A sport-portal, after clicking on "Fussball" and "International" you may find articles about la vecchia signora...

Und nun viel Spaß beim Lernen!!! :D

PS: If you have any question don't hesitate to write me a pm ... I'll help you!

actually,i think i speak better than i write.
in all my english interviews i used to be gettibg the highest mark in class and compairing to my english writing, thr speaking part was always muuuch better!
i am more confidend when i am talking.
i don't worrie making a mistake,in spelling or even grammar.
in speach, the mistakes are not so obvious.

but,in writen words,i have more time to think of a word i may don't remember,or open a dictionary when i doubt about a spelling.

    :D but,i love english and i "train"them a lot.
    in everyhting.
i am reading english magazines, listening just to english-american music, i am using just english speaking sites etc....

What's that like? I originally read "Lancashire" and was about to post "Ooh, ar!" when I realised my mistake!

ok while we are at this..... could anyone teach me how to bargain a ticket from a lazio fan ? :D
I think it's a non-verbal language, involving a knife, at least two firearms, and a load of explosives attached to your chest. ;)

Well, Londoners laugh at me. If that's anything to go by :D

    A very popular expression:

"That don't stack up" (That's not right)

Leicestershire people will also use (what is to be considered low-class) expressions such as "dinner" when they're referring to lunch and they'll use "me" instead of "mine".
